God(dess), I am so sick of dark and gritty. I was so hopeful that Empire (Apple) and Ted Lasso were harbingers that we’d finally turned a corner after literal decades of dark and gritty, but apparently not. If only the Empire story-writing hadn’t sucked quite so many donkey balls, maybe it’d been more emulated.
The corpses of Cyberpunk and grunge have been beaten so much, I’m no longer able to unable to enjoy any dark & gritty, no matter how good.
But, apparently, it still sells. I guess as long as there are angsty teen-agers, there will always be a market for angsty shows.
