Clearly less lethal weapons are needed to stop non-violent protesters from occupying some space to voice opposition to violence.

/s just in case. Also, rubber bullets are less lethal weapons, as in less likely to kill than bullets.

        Yup!

Too many people think that rubber bullets, tasers, and any alternative to shooting live bullets are non-lethal when they are actually less lethal.

Tripping on an uneven sidewalk and hitting your head against the pavement can also be lethal. We should do away with paved sidewalks.

What an apt comparison! Unintentional tripping hazards and objects fling at people with the intent to cause harm are basically the same thing!

I thought you were supposed to aim rubber bullets at the ground, so the force would partially dissipate. There are cops shooting straight out from hip level, which I guess isn’t horrible, but the people shooting straight out from eye level are officially violating a bunch of regulations.

I’ll never forget seeing the homeless man in a wheelchair with his eyeball hanging out from being shot in the face by a riot cop’s baton round at the BLM protests. Poor guy was just trying to survive on the street at got a permanent disability for just being there.

Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll be punished with a couple weeks of paid leave.

Shooting at the ground is less about slowing down the bullet than keeping the shooter from aiming at specific people so the department can claim they didn’t target anyone in particular.

Shooting from hip level is horrible because they still have the ability to aim from the hip.

First of all, ACAB and I’m not defending a goddamn thing they are doing here.

But you can’t aim a weapon from the hip. You just can’t. You can shoot from the hip but if you’re trying to hit something in particular, good luck because it’s all luck. The Army has you do an exercise in infantry basic training to show you just how fucking impossible it is to hit a target even 20m away while shooting from the hip, with live rounds on a firing range. It’s a way to educate you that all the shit you’ve seen in movies is utter bs.

20m, yes it is pretty much impossible to hit a target while firing from the hip without extensive practice. Cops don’t have that amount of practice, but also rarely fire non-lwthal weapons from that far away.

At 5m the bullets will most likely be hitting a human sized target. Note the range they are firing from the shoulder in the video and assume the comment was about similar firing conditions. They can’t aim for the face, but they can still pick their targets.

Well I don’t want to argue and seem like I’m supporting these fascist fucks. We all know cops have no problem firing indiscriminately into a crowd of unarmed people. I just don’t like when people say “aim from the hip” cause that’s not really a thing outside of an Annie Oakley type deal.

Yeah, they’re supposed to be fired at waist level and below. The goal is (supposed to be) to bruise legs, not explode eyes. But these cops were either trained wrong (likely on purpose), or are intentionally going against their training.

They were going for headshots during the pandemic riots too.

The Oakland County Child Killer was a less lethal serial killer than John Wayne Gacy

Edit: Huh, apparently that wasn’t an apt comparison? Oh well, the point is you wouldn’t leave someone alone in a room with either one of them and you shouldn’t fire bullets, rubber or not, at nonviolent protestors. Probably shouldn’t really be shooting at people in general… Except maybe those serial killers.
