Similar to how it goes here in the UK too. Hold teachers to higher standards than any other public servant and demand more hours from them than our politicians with more expectations to raise kids than the parents wonder why the good ones are going. Parents need to be reset, there’s some right entitlement out there. I don’t know why anyone goes into that field anymore.

Seriously though, she was highly regarded by her colleagues and students and was awarded Teacher of the Month, so clearly she was doing things right and it appears that she was able to keep both sides of her life a comfortable distance from one another. They’re throwing the baby out with the bath water in a time when good teachers are harder to find, we can’t afford to lose more of them.
That’s because they know how highly valued she is and they wouldn’t want to increase a teachers pay when they could instead line their own pockets with that money. It’s an on going issue nationwide. After I left high school they let every single beloved teacher go and replaced them all with lower paid ones. The next budget meeting someone from the community asked them why the SI got a pay raise of $15k but they ended the meeting without an answer this was 10 years ago and now the position is nearly matched with the high schools entire budget…
Teachers need to just be okay with being exposed to illnesses and shooting scenarios on top of their already-chaotic careers and the crazy parents that come with them.
Obviously without any other income or interests, never veer toward another possible path.
Seriously, the way this country treats its teachers, it’s no wonder people grow up to be so stupid they’d be taken in by charlatans like Trump. You want to get rid of demagogues, you have to do a good job of teaching kids critical thinking skills, and you can’t do that without good teachers getting paid what they deserve in every school in the country. The first president we get that leads a big push for teachers funding, we’ll see pay off in dividends if it’s kept at.
