The Coalition for Property Tax Justice released a report Thursday that summarized the feelings of residents who joined a January forum. The report found overtaxed Detroiters have a clear preference for cash payments, though property tax credits and home repair grants are other acceptable forms of compensation.

“Detroit homeowners who were collectively overtaxed by about $600 million over a six-year span.”

Wow. That is a serious chunk of change.

I remember at least one of the counties in Ohio were charging an extra 25 cents when people were getting their driver’s licenses for lamination costs and someone found out that it wasn’t necessary and people were pissed and lawmakers immediately got on top of it saying they’d right it. I can’t imagine being overtaxed $600 million and not getting any of it back.
