I am on unemployment for the first time and they say I need to be filling out a form every 2 weeks saying I was looking for work. My question is how serious are these forms when I fill them out? Do they track down every place I tried to fill out an application for? I am super confused on how all this works and hoping a fellow hexbear can help my neurodivergent ass out.
Do they track down every place I tried to fill out an application for?
certainly not, at most it will be a small random sample. and my guess is if it’s your first time and you’re turning in your forms on time you’ll barely be scrutinized. obviously i’m not recommending any fraud, but if you’re putting in any effort and honestly reporting i doubt you’ll get audited.
what are you worried about?
I am worried about messing up on the only form that gets my rent and medical insurance bills paid. I just feel like there is a Sword of Damocles above my head waiting to drop when I don’t dot an i or cross a t to their liking. I am also not the smartest person in the world when it comes to this stuff and the reassurance helps me a lot.
understandable anxiety but you should be fine. their main goal is to direct you towards resources to help you find a job, not punish you for bureaucratic trivialities.
Gotcha, thanks for replying to my thread. It might not seem like much but it means a lot to me.
good luck!
I remember filling out those forms, they’re a form of humiliation. I was constantly told I’m “not looking hard enough” and “looking for work that you shouldn’t be looking for”
I hate everyone in my local unemployment office, they’re all there to humiliate and berate you for the smallest things.
This is exactly what I was afraid of. I cannot do the job I use to do because it burned me out that badly. So I wanted to change to a different type of work. I use to do system administration but want to do data entry. Do I need to explain this to someone?
IIt really depends, do they treat you badly everytime you walk in? If they’re good, they might be able to find you someone to work with you to find something you enjoy.
I had no idea there was even an office that I needed to report to. None of my paperwork so far says I have to do that.
I mean something like a case officer? They assign you someone who is in theory, supposed to help you based on your circumstances and history of employment. In my experience they still degraded and insulted me.
Idk how it works where ever you live though. You should look into it
