It was such an unfortunate decision to cancel Lower Decks. I really liked that show.

Halo tried to do its own thing and had mixed results at best, but I did think it was on a much firmer footing in season two than season one. Another season and they might have righted the ship completely.

Look at just about any science fiction show: aside from some notable exceptions, the first season or two are generally terrible until they get their feet under them.

Yeah. I should have clarified that I’m not a Halo fan. I once bought an Xbox just to play Halo; I maybe played two in the series? And Gears of War, which was fun. But Halo was for me only ever a fun game; I never consumed any of the other media, and I switched pretty quickly to PlayStation and never looked back.

I hated the show a little for what they did do, as it was so divergent from the couple of early games I’d played, and I really disliked where they took Master Chief as a character in the universe. But I wasn’t so invested that I couldn’t enjoy the FX and the story. And I think that’s key: for a person with only mild exposure to Halo, it was a good show. I can see how it would infuriate the True Fans, though. And I get that.

To paraphrase[*] Captain Tightpants, “May have been in the losing side; still not convinced it was the wrong one.” I’d have liked more seasons.
