I’ve never understood why private healthcare companies aren’t gagging for single payer healthcare. Their problems with delinquent payers would immediately be solved, right?
Surely they aren’t worried that their corrupt practices like charging patients with insurance more than out of pocket costs would be exposed and someone might actually do something about the systemic fraud?
You are supposed to charge patients more than out of pocket costs if you want to stay solvent as a business. That being said, why are hospitals business and not services?
“Out of pocket” in this context is a reference to a type of patient payment. Healthcare providers charge more money for services to insurance than they charge to patients who pay up front, which would be fine if it was a small amount, but with some insurances you might end up paying more out of pocket with insurance coverage covering part of the visit.
