Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed early Wednesday in central Tehran, an apparent assassination that Iran and Hamas blamed on Israel and pledged to avenge. The killing, following a strike in Lebanon that Israel said killed a senior Hezbollah military commander, threatened to plunge the unstable region further into chaos and raised fresh doubts about Gaza cease-fire talks underway in Rome.

From The Guardian’s live feed on this:

Iran’s Khamenei says avenging Haniyeh’s killing is ‘Tehran’s duty’

Avenging Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination is “Tehran’s duty” because it occurred in the Iranian capital, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, Khamenei said Israel had provided the grounds for “harsh punishment” for itself.

“We consider his revenge as our duty,” he said.

There has been no immediate comment from Israel on the strike, which took place hours after Haniyeh attended the inauguration ceremony for Iran’s new president.

I don’t understand why people seem to hate this bot. I’ve seen commenters saying MBFC itself is biased but without actually providing any sources which is sort of ironic, and one bright spark vowed to downvote it every time because “they’re begging for donations”

I’m not a fan of the format personally. It looks like crap on my client and takes up half the screen when the relevant information only really needs a line or two. I think the information is useful but I’m still on the fence about blocking it because it’s quite the eyesore.

EDIT: This is what it looks like for reference

There are people here with a wide range of opinions held very strongly. So of course the bot is going to be a blessing to some and nefarious and evil to others. Apparently like the leader of Hamas.

You can view the examples of bias in the stickied mega thread.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s because you haven’t tried to look.

It very clearly has a Zionist bend, and will actively downgrade the rating for news sources critical of Israel.

I mean how do you even source a claim like that? That said, MBFC messes up a lot. I mean how the hell is NYT left wing?

If you actually go to the site, it explains its reasoning

            Which disagrees with objective reality.

Also, it doesn’t say NYT, it’s “The Washington Post”, and it’s not “left-wing”, it says “left-center”

            I was giving an example.

Even giving examples of this supposed bias would be better than essentially just going “they’re biased trust me bro”

I want others to see my comment, before lemmy gets flooded with bots (just like reddit already is) flooding my screen with walls of text. Is that so horrible to give some feedback? Are your feelings hurt? HOLY FUCK.

No, I’m tired of your ilk that can’t seem to contend with any negative feedback.

              My comment was extremely benign.

I also provided an explanation for why I went with the comment instead of blocking the bot.

If it hurts your feelings every time someone expresses the least amount of indignation at anything then I can’t help you. Sorry it made you upset.

I was under the impression that a Hamas leader wouldn’t look so rich and healthy, surrounded by Iranian lawmakers.

I was expecting more of a “Rebel” look.

I was expecting more of a “Rebel” look.

      Why?

Israel not only let suitcases full of money get to Hamas across the border, they outright solicited donations to Hamas from other countries.

Obviously the people running Hamas are going to be corrupt and taking a huge slice of that money.

Hell, the only reason Hamas is “in control” of Gaza is Israel refuses to let Gaza hold a new election. The whole situation is just so Israel has an excuse to act like this.

Just like the reason Israel took so long to take this guy out, probably has more to do with Joe Biden stepping down than anything else. Bibi just came back from DC, and he probably realizes the clock is running down on unconditional support. So we’re going to see them focus more on actual military targets for the next few months, then a ceasefire while Biden is in office.

I’m suggesting that the reason Hamas has any measure of control or authority is because Israel refuses to let Gaza vote them out, so they can say Hamas is a valid reason to persecute everyone in Gaza.

But Israel smuggling money for Hamas, and preventing an election so Hamas could be kicked out of power are facts

What’s your suggestion for why Israel would do those two things?

Why do they try so hard to keep Hamas in power?

There are too many connections as to believe that this is just passive support. Hamas knows it gets support from Israel and both sites benefit from it. Hamas itself is a deeply corrupt and downright evil organization, which is hated in Gaza for torture, rape and destroying public services. They need the big enemy Israel to justify them being in charge.

Israel or better Netanyahu and his fellow fascists need Hamas to stop peace talks with the Palastinians. If there is a genuine peace in the region, he would almost certainly loose elections. Kind of a similar situation to Hamas really.

Suggesting that hamas is corrupt and their goal is to steal money doesnt make sense. Their leaders in and out of gaza has been being targeted all the time. If you want to get rich you could easily go to west bank and live happily with LPO who are the actual thieves.
