A federal judge late Friday dismissed Donald Trumpā€™s $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN, in which the former president argued that the cable networkā€™s statements about his false 2020 election fraud claims likened him to Adolf Hitler.

In the lawsuit, Trumpā€™s team argued that CNN writers and television anchorsā€™ use of the phrase the ā€œBig Lie,ā€ in five specific incidents, incited ā€œreaders and viewers to hate, contempt, distrust, ridicule, and even fearā€ him.

ā€œIf you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.ā€

ā€œBeing ā€˜Hitler-likeā€™ is not a verifiable statement of fact that would support a defamation claim,ā€ Singhal wrote in his dismissal. ā€œCNNā€™s statements while repugnant, were not, as a matter of law, defamatory.ā€

Well shucks, I thought the judge had ruled that Trump was in-fact Hitler like. Still he took the L here, with prejudice.

I would have loved for the case to go through and for CNN to have detailed and proved Trumpā€™s Hitler-like qualities for the world.

They could have dissected him on the stand.

Repugnant? His own defense secretary resigned comparing his approach to the Nazis well ahead of the election.

His conspiracy obviously fits ā€œBig Lieā€ perfectly.

Reminder that Steve Bannon frankly confessed Trumpā€™s Start the Steal conspiracy plans to a group of Trump insiders before the election.

    https://www.npr.org/2022/07/22/1112138665/jan-6-committee-hearing-transcript

ā€¦audio from Trump advisor, Steve Bannon, surfaced from October 31st, 2020, just a few days before the Presidential election.

    Letā€™s listen. [Begin Videotape]

STEVE BANNON: And what Trumpā€™s going to do is declare victory, right? Heā€™s going to declare victory, but that doesnā€™t mean heā€™s a winner. Heā€™s just gonna say heā€™s a winner. The Democrats ā€” more of our people vote early that count. Theirs vote in mail. And so theyā€™re going to have a natural disadvantage and Trumpā€™s going to take advantage ā€” thatā€™s our strategy.

Heā€™s gonna declare himself a winner. So when you wake up Wednesday morning, itā€™s going to be a firestorm. Also ā€” also if Trump is ā€” if Trump is losing by 10 or 11:00 at night, itā€™s going to be even crazier. Because heā€™s gonna sit right there and say they stole it. If Bidenā€™s wining, Trump is going to do some crazy shit.

But U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal, who Trump appointed in 2019, reasoned that because all of CNNā€™s statements were opinion, Trump could not legally sue the network for defamation.

    Thatā€™s it?
