My partner called me, extremely confused, when she first saw one. I think she said it looked “like a tank from a really old video game” and I immediately realized what she was talking about.
The design is based on an old Mac game about designing cars, the Cybertruck’s profile shape is apparently the design that gave the highest score in wind tunnel tests in game.
The car design is based on an old video game about designing cars. The style of car Cybertrucks are based on ranked highest in wind tunnel tests, probably because it’s roughly what an aerofoil rendered on a 1982 Apple II or DOS would look like in car form.

It’s Gen X nostalgia obscura.
Okay, I’ll bite.
Is there any truth to that in real life?
From a cursory bing image search, the most aerodynamic car on the market is:
Which, yeah, because it looks like an aerofoil. Looks like a cyber truck but closer to the ground and uses rounded edges. And also much lighter.
So yeah, the CT would be moderately aerodynamic, but would be better if it wasn’t rendered on a 1982 Apple II computer.
Still love the truck though!
