      • waking up to pee a lot I would take as a sign. I used to do that a lot. I drink a lot of water all the time and I’m in my 40s, so I just assumed it was a “I’m getting older, this is what old people do” thing.

        I got on CPAP and I legit sleep through the night like a goddam badass toddler. wake up at like 8 hrs and gotta whiz big time.

    having someone sleeping next to me say that I snored a lot and even stopped breathing at times overnight

    Falling asleep while driving to work in the morning, after ‘sleeping’ for 8-10 hours. (reasonably new properly working car, no reason to suspect CO poisoning)

    Had sleep apnea before leaving the states. Used to sleep 14 hour days, still sleepy during the day. Didn’t figure it out until I got depression too and started examining the sleep issues as potential depression symptoms (they weren’t, and in fact sleep apnea sometimes causes depression).

    Note my example is extreme, and I’ve seen many complaints about other issues (like waking up in the middle of the night, I never did), so ymmv

    Just keep in mind that sleep apnoea can be silent.

    Snoring badly and the other obvious signs are a good indicator of it but the absence of snoring is not sufficient to rule sleep apnoea out.

  • I took a test. like a clinic sent me home with a thing to strap to my chest and some tubes for my nose and a pulse finger clip thing. that confirmed it.

    I took the sleep test because my PCP was kinda up my ass about it for a year. I’m stout and I’m a guy and I’m over 40, so it’s crazy common.

    I was sorta dismissive until I read symptoms and effects and cumulatively the bells starting going off in my head.

    not even 10 years prior, I could sleep on my back on a mat and be out like a light and wake up the same way, calm as a vampire. but for the last years, I was all fucked up on my side/stomach, flipping and flopping, waking up sweaty and anxious, stress headache. my BP was wack all the time, I was irritable on waking and always tired. just like fucked. but it’s such a slow accumulation, that had all become normal for me.

    treatment for apnea has absolutely changed my entire life for the better. they say it takes a few months for your body and mind to recover from all those traumatizing moments of almost dying every few minutes. I’m a chill, friendly person again. I dont feel nearly as overwhelmed by things, I’m more communicative. it’s crazy how much we lose by not getting good, restful sleep.

    if you’re even suspecting you might have it, just get the study. don’t put it off.

    Waking up suffocating and my husband’s stories on how I stop breathing during sleep for few seconds and then catch the air suffocating, but still sleeping. Grogling sounds of snoring. It’s onomatopoeic, figure out what could this made up word mean. The sound is grogl grohghghll grghklgh.
