Angry driving can make one quite blunt

Enough to rage over a mundane stunt

    At bicyclists abreast

a roar rose in his chest

    SINGLE FILE YOU TWO-WHEELED CUN–

    Skeleton Warriors!

taking up more road by riding two abreast may appear to take up more road space

These coppas are genuises, and yes I paraphrased it rather than quoting the stupidity.

Two cyclists nose to tail with a small gap ends up meaning that the car behind has to overtake the effective length of a truck to pass them both. Two cyclists riding abreat means they only need to overtake a car length

If there’s enough lateral space to do it in.

When I was a child we didn’t have bike lanes, and biking to school was always an interesting endeavor. Thus I will always take off a bit of speed and give cyclists a good bit of space. But if there’s two or more bikes side by side, then they can take up enough road that you can’t pass them without crossing entirely into the other lane. And then they’re just a big pain as slow moving tractors and other farm equipment, except they’re even more annoying because they could just go single file.

Cyclists going side by side are inconsiderate assholes and this comes from a guy who bikes to work daily.

        “which one is bigger?”
        “that one.”
“no actually, they’re both equal volume.”
        “that’s not what you asked.”

When I go for a bike ride with my SO we always ride side by side on streets that have a posted limit at or below 40kmh.

We usually only ride side by side on residential streets. Occasionally we get someone driving too close to us when passing or shouting out their windows saying single file in the same way.

Its like going for a walk, we would not walk in a single file, neither would we sit in a car in single file.

How are some cyclist comfortable with driving side by side? I was always anxious when that happened, can’t swifel out and nothing and if you fall because of that, the others fall too.

      OOTL:

      Jeremy Vine

On August 2016, a car driver threatened and was abusive to Vine while he was cycling along Hornton Street in Kensington, London. Vine captured the encounter on his helmet camera, later broadcasting it on YouTube where it was viewed several million times. Vine also reported it to the police. On 18 April 2017, the car driver was jailed for nine months for threatening behaviour. At the time of the incident, she was subject to a suspended sentence for various other offences.

Here’s the video, it contains road rage so don’t watch it if you have high blood pressure.

Love cycling but to be fair that s a little annoying when you have 2 cyclists side by side and you can’t overtake them. The driver was an asshole but i can understand his frustration.

If there isn’t space to overtake two cyclists side by side, there isn’t space to overtake one cyclist. If there’s another car coming towards you while you overtake, you’d be endangering the one cyclist.

1.5m to overtake one cyclist brings you only partially onto the otherside of the road.

1.5m to overtake two cyclists astride brings you fully onto the otherside of the road

@mondoman712 @felykiosa it depends a little onthe road in question, there are roads with a sinple lane wide enough that a single file of cyclists are passable without crossing into oncoming traffic, but two abreast isn’t.

But we all know this isn’t what happened here. Driver just wanted to let his priveledge show.

Sounds like you should talk to your representatives about getting protected bicycle paths in your city so that they’re out of your way
