“Nine people were inside the home when the fire started. At least two were awake and quickly realized the garage was engulfed in flames. Everyone made it out safely, but the home was destroyed.”

    Yikes.

I’d like to see their insurance company go after Tesla

Electric vehicles can catch fire if they are inundated by saltwater, though the problem is rare, The Associated Press reported. The best way to avoid the issue is keeping these vehicles out of standing water.

ack… how did this get by any rational standards??

Is this more common with Tesla than other EVs?

Electric vehicles can catch fire if they are inundated by saltwater, though the problem is rare

It makes a good title, and I’m not really here to defend Tesla. I hate cars in general and I think we should have much much more public transit rather than push EVs on everyone, but won’t/couldn’t this kind of news dissuade some people from getting EVs, and make them think ICEs are safer?

I guess it’s good to let people know about that small possibility, but it shouldn’t deter efforts to move away from oil.

If the battery packs are not sealed properly or the seal breaks, water can cause it to short and catch fire.

Apparently there were two other homes that were destroyed the same way on Davis Island in Tampa because of flooding from Helene.

Salt water plus batteries of any kind is bad. I’m sure salt water and lithium batteries is even worse.
