Last night, I finally made the switch from Reddit to Lemmy. Honestly it was something I should have done a long time ago. I’d been hearing about Lemmy for a while, but I kept brushing it off because it seemed complicated or too niche or too techy. But after one too many encounters with power-hungry mods, desperate upvote chasers, and a flood of obvious bots, I hit my breaking point. I actually ended up learning more about Lemmy from people venting on Reddit itself, which was kind of ironic!!

I set up an account here, took a last look around Reddit, and bailed. Reddit used to feel like a genuine community, but now it’s just a money-hungry platform, clearly trying to squeeze out every dollar as it spirals down. Lemmy might be new to me, but at least here, it feels like voices still matter. I know you guys already know this, but I want to throw it out there: You all are right!

They’re one of the most prolific posters on here. Maybe 1/3 to 1/4 of your front page will be their posts at times. I was ribbing the parent poster for implying that anyone who posts on here frequently “must” be a bot, which is obviously horseshit.

Some of us genuinely have nothing better to do.

Not that I’d know or anything. ¬_¬

What does ‘front page’ mean? I used to read that on r/ too and never knew what it meant.

It’s the default feed you get when you navigate to your instance (lemmy.world in this case) as opposed to your subscription view or any specific communities/subs. Here it’s either “local” (posts from just this instance) or “all” (posts from this and other federated instances).

I’ve always just opened to subscribed new. If i run out of new stuff i hit subscribed hot or active, then all. So ALL is the front page?

I mean, there’s nothing that’s officially the front page but the default view is usually considered to be it. “All” ignores your subscriptions, and only honors your blocked communities/instances/users.
