Pretty subjective. I understand that some people get burnt out on the open world activities, but for me it’s one of the very few games I 100%'d and it never got old for me.
I played it back on the PS4. My memory is that I enjoyed the vast majority of it, and was pretty completionist on that one. Mostly because the world and environments are hauntingly beautiful. I enjoyed riding slowly through the world, almost never using travel, and exploring the nooks and crannies. If that’s your bag I think you might like it. But The story does go through some contortions to fill out the play time.
Yup, but that’s my opinion of most open world games anyways. There’s a lot of Ubisoft-esque content like “free this stronghold” or sidequests that involve you slowly following an NPC and they get old very quickly. The combat also doesn’t evolve that much, so I found myself bored around the halfway point.
sidequests that involve you slowly following an NPC
I haate those quests. ‘Quick! We must urgently go do something to save everyone!’ and then waddles off like an over-stuffed penguin.
Can we PLEASE at least make these stupid NPCs walk at player run speed, it’s been obnoxious for like 30 years now.
The newer AC games, to my memory, will actually have the characters run at your pace. Even if you sprint they’ll sprint along ahead of you with that ridiculous flailing arm run.
I agree so much, but it’s not even the “follow a friendly NPC while they talk” quests that get me. This game also has “follow the villain without getting caught” quests which are mind-numbingly boring. They move like a tortoise and look behind them once every minute or something to make sure you’re not standing right behind them. They’re insultingly dumb and treat me like I’ve never played a video game before.
That’s so true and that’s why I’m getting tired of open world games and really trying to space them evenly with a few « normal » games inbetween.
I kind of miss linear games.
I had an absolute blast with it for about 15-20 hours earlier this year and then it started getting super repetitive. Ended up dropping it for a new release.
Great villain, though. I’ll probably go back to it just to see how the story plays out.
The combat is actually pretty good, the graphics and style is amazing. The story is a bit on the meh side. Overall, I think this game is worth it at a discount. I think I bought it for something like 20€ on a disc with the DLC and am planning to resell it at some point.
It’s a 10/10 for me. It’s extremely rare for me to finish a game, and it’s the first game I’ve ever 100%.
I 100%ed it and had a blast. But you don’t have to 100% a game if you don’t have fun anymore. You can easily just finish up the story and be happy with what you got.
I think this is more a fault on the person playing the game than the game itself. If it was any less expansive then I’m sure there would be people wishing there was more to do in the game they like.

Yeah but to be fair it is a great game. 100% it and that’s that. Maybe in a couple of year ill play again.
Personally I loved it from start to finish and everywhere between
If there’s one thing that got me tired of it, it’s that it’s much cheaper from a game design standpoint when all opponents are killed, any unique characters you’re meant to save are already dead (don’t have to animate them) and all gameplay is combat.
It makes the game a bit depressing sometimes when it’s a lot of missions around arriving too late and mourning the dead.
Call it whatever you want, but i highly welcome every refreshing setting. Like Japan. Or scifi (cyberpunk) or… Everything but the run-of-the-mill high-fantasy orcs and elves.
Played on PS4 Pro. I really loved the theme and the visuals. The combat was quite nice too. But, I also remember it got very grindy to me.
I was actually pretty upset that they set up this beautiful narrative and symbolic growing storm/kamikaze coming in to sink the Mongol fleet as you accept that you must dishonor your code to defeat the invaders and then didn’t fucking do that.
Like, okay, you are the kamikaze or whatever, but still. Duel in a lightning storm where?
Open world is just played out at this point, it is way too easy to get burnt out.
