I watched a documentary about the guy which turned out to be mostly about the bizarre lies he told. He was a fucking nutcase, devoid of reasons of ever consider believing his horseshit. And he liked fucking underage women so much he fled countries that didn’t let him do that. Insane scumbags don’t make my sympathy list but apparently you’re looking for opps to defend them so congrats

I’m arguing that saying you won’t kill yourself and are likely to be assassinated is not a foolproof method, not defending Mcafee

And I’m saying that him acting like a lunatic and literally lying dozens of times publicly destroyed his credibility, not “the media”. The documentary does a great job of treating him fairly but most things he said ended up being baseless or false.

I just don’t think that’s something that’s reasonable to by default expect people to be lying about, even if they are known not to be credible, and it definitely isn’t a detail that’s ever appropriate to omit entirely from coverage of someones death. If that’s the attitude towards it then getting away with “suiciding” someone in terms of public opinion has a pretty low barrier for success.

It’s a reasonable thing to think that a paranoid drug addict would be saying shit like that for the attention alone. Kinda interesting that this could be controversial imo

He was a mentally ill drug addicted criminal. Kinda obvious that’s not a reliable source of info no matter the topic.

If you saw the documentary you’d see he did a lot of weird things to get attention and everyone who worked with him or knew him seemed to agree with that assessment
