A man named Luigi Mangione stood up and did something about it.
And the powers that be are working tirelessly to destroy him without making it so obvious that it riles the rest of us up.
Not to oversimplify but a shit economic situation was a large part of the reason the Nazis were able to rise to power.
And as I look at around at our current world… Oh. Shit.
But jokes aside, I think a lot of people are just not aware enough to realize how easy it is for extremism to fester in a society where people are economically (and morally) depressed. If you want to know why Hitler rose to power, then look no further than 1930s Germany to understand that. Our world doesn’t look too different from that.
And besides, it’s not like anyone knew exactly what was going to happen as events unfolded. Nothing like WW2 had ever occurred in the history of the planet, so even if you had a perfect time machine so you could go back and tell people what was about to happen, it’s not like they would actually believe you. People were miserably, angry and desperate… so they wanted to fuck around, and eventually they found out, so to speak.
And one last point: Nazi Germany is also an extreme example of what can happen to a depressed society, and it’s not like things always turn out the same way. I’m pretty sure that things are going to end pretty miserably before the world becomes a better place, but it doesn’t necessarily mean WW3 or another Holocaust or anything like that. We can’t know any of this with certainty - all we can do is hope for the best (and prepare for the worst, as they say).
I think a lot of people are just not aware enough to realize how easy it is for extremism to fester in a society where people are economically (and morally) depressed
They’re “not aware enough” because the education systems, as well as the media, which are controlled and or owned by the people looking to manipulate them, and deliberately ensures that from infancy the population is only given a white washed version of history that serves those in power, so that exactly this can happen.
Which only reinforces OP.
The idea that any of this is accidental, or worse, is some inevitable part of “human nature” is just one more way in which those in power manipulate you in to accepting it as reality.
All true, except that it doesn’t really get better because after we manage to contain or survive the upcoming Nazi/extremism movement, nature will punish everyone on the planet for not having done anything about climate change. So first we have to deal with huge societal and political problems, and then with huge natural ones (which also cause huge societal and political problems as a result). We know the answers to both of these problems, but we aren’t changing anything.
jokes aside
Where joke
For real.
And the answer is: Many people were doing something against it, but they were arrested while the majority looked away afraid to be in their place.
Anyone that thinks standing up to people in power is easy has never done it. Everyone should respect the people that do.
On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder should be read by everyone.
I’m starting to think there were fewer Germans that were NOT Nazis than I thought. That’s the way it seems now.
Most people are just happy to roll with the flow. Especially in German culture, switching off empathy is still quite commonplace. So a lot of people who were deeply involved in Nazi atrocities werent necessarily ideologically convinced, they just saw an opportunity to make a career in the new order and were willing to commit any crime for it. A lot of these people were preserved as useful and made careers again in Western Germany, as the US wanted to quickly reestablish Western Germany as a strong country to have a fighter against Sowjet communism.
they just saw an opportunity to make a career in the new order and were willing to commit any crime for it.
None of that is unique to Germany, nor the 1930’s-40’s, but rather a core feature of capitalism, which is why it always decays in to fascism.

somehow that sounds worse than just being a nazi
Some ate the propaganda, while others got purged from voter rolls.

Right…because no one said that about all the bullshit that happened under Clinton, Bush Jr or Obama, it’s just the orange man that’s bad, right?
Clinton is one of the reasons why marijuana is treated like it is.
Bush Jr started the surveillance state we live in and started 2 illegal wars
Obama killed 90% civilians with the drones and pretended that the flint water crisis was fixed…and he started at least 5 new illegal wars
Clinton is one of the reasons why marijuana is treated like it is.
Nixon. The name you’re looking for is Nixon. He’s the one who started the War on Drugs as a justification to arrest the hippies and black people, two groups who openly and publicly opposed him. We know this for a fact because his former cabinet has been very open in talking about it. Brazen, even.
Cherry-picking Clinton for that and ignoring the multiple decades of policy before then is very telling of the narrative that you’re trying to spin.
Also, here’s a quote for you directly from Trump’s incoming administration:
We need a genocide of trans people.
Bush Jr. is also a bad selection for your narrative. He was the most hated presidential candidate of all time during his campaign for reelection and has only been dethroned since by Donald Trumo and Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election. Maybe that’s changed again. I haven’t checked since then.
The fact that you believe Obama killed many civilians with drone strikes means you believed the propaganda.
Obama had a lower kill count than any modern President except Carter. The reason you used the word drones is because that was the right wing talking point. Because no previous president had access to drones in large numbers, they could say Obama killed more civilians with drones than any other president. So talking about drones while ignoring total deaths with Obama would be like talking endlessly about Bush Sr as the stealth bomber killer. Trump killed more civilians in his first year with drones than Obama did in 8.

Prime whataboutism here folks
Thats so 2016
Did someone say anything about clinton, bush, or obama. Did this guy lose it right in front of us?
Im pretty sure none of them said they wanted to be a dictator, or that they wanted to do away with the constitution. All of your points may be valid criticisms, but that’s not the conversation being had.
I thought this is about the FPÖ in Austria.
No idea what ever you’re taking aboutI guess you forgot to install a brain this morning.
