Yea this isn’t surprising at all. A big part of the capitalist ideology as taught to most people is that you with your wallet. For consoomers that’s supposed to mean they pay for “good” products and services & “punish” bad ones by withholding your dollar. Of course this conveniently leaves out issues like monopolies and companies colluding to fix prices but shhhh don’t worry about that.
So when a company is aligning with your sports team political party then it’s a political statement to give them money. The right wing grifters had this figured out when they started all those veteran owned companies that sold bacon grease infused coffee & shit like that.
“punish” bad ones by withholding your dollar. Of course this conveniently leaves out issues like monopolies and companies colluding to fix prices but shhhh don’t worry about that.
It also conveniently leaves out the fact that the term boycott comes from a bunch of Irish peasants effectively going on a general strike against their landlord, and that boycotts often involved smashing the property of the people you’re boycotting.
But today it’s just been twisted into “don’t shop there! That’s what a boycott is! :)”
Happens every time. The Luddites are another excellent example. Groups of workers opposing their jobs being taken from them by machines are now simple technology haters without reason
