Akemann flew the drone at least 2,500 meters (more than 1.5 miles) toward the fire and lost sight of the drone.

Akemann’s defense attorneys say he is “deeply sorry” for the incident in a separate statement, although bring up “a number of mitigating factors,” write Eurogamer, “including the supposed failure of a geo fencing safeguard feature on Akemann’s DJI Drone”.

This is reckless as hell. Any drone operator knows one of the number 1 rules for recreational (and even commercial pilots unless a permit is obtained) is MAINTAIN LINE OF SIGHT

He should also get his license revoked aswell as the normal sentencing

I glued reflective stripes to my drone to make it more visible, for two reasons: Making it easier to see it by me and others so that people would never think I was secretly filming them.
