Hundreds of Ohioans from across the state gathered in near-freezing temperatures to protest at the Ohio Statehouse Wednesday. It was part of a national movement known as “50 states, 50 protests, one day” event, also known as the “50501 movement”, had one main theme - to criticize President Trump’s first days in office.

I don’t like trump in office. I don’t know what these protests expect to do. Not only will he, and those in power not give two shits, but it’s not like he’s saying or doing anything that you didn’t know was coming. And he won the popular vote.

He sat there, on nationally televised debates, saying if you elect him you’ll never need to elect anyone ever again. He’s been pushing for a relationship with russia for literal decades now. He said he idolizes North Korea and their dictatorship. Called him a real leader. He tried blackmailing Zelenskyy in 2020. Before trying to distance himself from it, he fully embraced project 2025.

These are all things he said and did publically. Not hiding it in any way. And America by popular vote said “Yes. We want this.”

Sooooooo…what are we protesting? That a politician didn’t lie about his goals, and is being truthful to back them up? When Hitler took power, he LOST the election. He was given a consolation prize lesser title. Then the chancellor died, and hitler just kind of said “guess I’m in charge now”.

If people had protested, I’d understand those protests.

I don’t see trump as the problem. I see him as the symptom of the problem. The problem is that for all of trumps racism and bigotry, and transfobia, and mysogony, and anything else that encapsulates all of trumps hate? America agrees. THAT’S the problem. Trump isn’t the source. Trump is just the megaphone. And long after he’s dead the problems will remain. Just as they have for centuries before. Just as they will for centuries after.

It’s not me giving up. It’s not a defeatist attitude. It’s me seeing that humans are all wired on a wide spanning mental spectrum. Which means in a 2 party political system everybody is always going to be unhappy. And eventually the worst of the worst are going to seize power. When they do a portion of the crowd will always agree with them.

Trump isn’t creating problems. He’s not the source. He’s just spreading preexisting ones with a global platform and full power.

Eventually he’ll be gone, but if we concentrate on him, the problems will remain. So what are these protests even for? I suggest everyone take a step back, reevaluate the game plan, and realize trump isn’t smart enough to have a grand master plan. He only has concepts of a plan.

I don’t think Trump is even the leader of the party, he’s just a figurehead. It’s Elon and the robber barons who are in control now.

As far as the effectiveness of protests… to paraphrase Robert Evans, we need to try something new and novel. But no one knows what that is yet.
