I’m really into horror audio dramas and/or anthology podcasts. Because of this I’ve burned through so many over the past year or two I feel like I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel, which sucks
Ones i like (kind of ordered by how much i like them):
- Knifepoint Horror
- Acephale
- The Silt Verses (and I Am in Eskew)
- We’re Not Meant To Know
- Magnus Archives
- Malevolent
- Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature
- Archive 81 season 3
- Sleep Wake cycle (haven’t tried all of their pods yet, they’re kind of a lot)
- Ghost Wax (kinda kid but more good than bad)
Ones I DIDN’T like:
- Tower 4
- Welcome to Nightvale
- Road of Shadows
- Hello from the Hallowoods
- Wrong Station (occasionally good)
- The White Vault (not horrible but idk a bit corny somehow)
- Alice is Dead
- Lovecraft Investigations (it was fine but idk turned too thriller)
- The Black Tapes (not a fan of the overproduction)
Basically I like shows that
- Have enough faith in their writing to not rely on a thick coat of quippy self-aware sarcasm marvel slop
- Are heavy on atmosphere, focus on the fiction, not on the host and their haunted podcast studio or whatever
- Do not devolve into action hollywood thrillers UNLESS the writing is good enough to support it after a couple of seasons of more horror leaning stuff
Oh and if you want recs from me just ask and you shall receive I’m dying to talk about these shows
unfortunately all the ones i would recommend are already in your list. only one i could think of was the left right game podcast which i listened to many years back but iirc it was more thriller which isn’t really what you’re looking for.
you honestly mentioned so many i never heard of before. how’s knifepoint horror or acephale? they seem to be your favorites![emoji comfy comfy](https://midwest.social/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhexbear.net%2Fapi%2Fv3%2Fimage_proxy%3Furl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.hexbear.net%252Fpictrs%252Fimage%252Fddf2c69d-10eb-4f5a-b537-8a4511505610.png)
I read Left Right Game on nosleep when it first came out so it’s not on the list. It’s good though! It clears my “thriller is ok if it’s creepy at the start and has strong writing”-bar
KPH and Acephale are both anthology pods, so stories are very loosely connected at most, but mostly entirely independent. KPH is very famous, Sorin Narnia is probably this generation’s best horror writer imo. Acephale takes a few eps to really hit its stride but once it does it’s just nonstop bangers. They’re both very much more on the audiobook side of the podcast spectrum, and are both really slow burn horror, all about the vibes and sense of place.
