The vast ice sheet that covers Greenland would be the new home away from home to various Scandinavian special forces units who would habitually commit assassinations and sabotage against any occupying force. The result would be a massively asymmetric situation similar to Vietnam but in extremely cold temperatures.

Is there a reason why you suggest “various Scandinavian special forces” and a guerilla war? I find this perhaps a little far-fetched.

Greenland is part of the kingdom of Denmark. Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland have a long standing mutual defence pact separate from NATO. A direct confrontation with the United States navy would be foolish, so guerilla warfare would be a lot more beneficial. Unless Britain and France get involved of course. That would alter things somewhat.

Yea, Vietnam had three Viet Kong hiding amongst the population and in caves in a dense jungle. Not ‘hiding on an ice sheet’.

I mean a long protracted conflict which the us will eventually back out of without having anything to show for it except a massive bill for destroyed equipment and a giant pr problem.
