DeSantis failed to note key details from her remarkable story: The person who tried to end Penny’s life in the womb was not a doctor or even an illegal abortion provider — it was her father. And his effort to abort his daughter with a coat hanger took place almost two decades before the Supreme Court’s seismic Roe v. Wade decision, which established a woman’s right to an abortion.
So because there was a failed “basement” abortion in 1953, that’s proof that abortion should be banned completely?
These people are clearly arguing in bad faith. They’ve built well-funded propaganda networks to radicalize their shrinking base all while bleeding them dry and pointing to the marginalized group of the week as the real boogeyman.
It’s ludicrous at this point. They’re like cartoon villains.
Just now figuring out that bad faith thing?
Their voters don’t care about truth. They are emotionally driven morons. If it feels true then it’s true.
Colbert did a whole persona around it.
If anything, it’s proof that abortion should be legalized because of the horrific failure of the at-home attempt. These attempts scar, maim, and kill women. Abortion should be legal and safe. It’s also disgusting to so blatantly lie about someone’s story to further your agenda.
His followers don’t care. Heck, I’m surprised there was an actual person involved, and not just something he made up on the spot.
I’m confused, are they sure Desantis and the paper are talking about the same people? It reads almost like satire with the amount of assumptions being made. Did I miss the direct correlation somewhere?
What I took from the article is, the story that Desantis told is a well known anti-abortion story. I gather that because they say it’s been around since before Rowe vs Wade. He got the name right, but changed the facts of the story to fit a more up to date narrative.
As someone that has had a partner that had to make that tough decision. I can tell you that his story is already fabricated just from the details gleaned from this article.
First, almost all abortions involve taking 2 pills. That’s it. No surgery. No vacuum. It’s 2 pills. You take one at the office, and one at home. It’s done.
Second, they DO NOT let anyone go back with the pregnant woman. The reason for this is they want to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that she is not being forced to do this by someone else. Grandma never would have been anywhere near an aborted fetus.
Had to do some more digging, but I couldn’t understand why the article insisted that the paper debunked the story about Penny. The detail I was missing is that it was actually her nickname, and not some case of mistaken identity. Thanks for helping to clear that up.
The estimated number of abortion survivors, according to a pro-life source I saw the other day while investigating this, is around 86,000, worldwide iirc.
I doubt there are that many Penny’s in Florida who could be counted as such, so I’m interested in what assumptions you feel are being unfairly made.
And to note, abortion survivors are further evidence of the need for access to safe and effective abortions.
“Abortion survivors”? Wtf is that bs term
It’s what happens when abortion is outlawed and home attempts are dangerous and ineffective.

I wonder if there’s anything right wing but high factual reliability?
Pro tip, they offer browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox that display a small icon giving the bias that you can click to see more information about the site. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/appsextensions/
My guess? You only read right wing trash.
Lol. I read all the trash. But good try.
“What are things like not right wing trash readers claim?”
Are you trying to give me an aneurism with that sentence?
If Jeopardy gives you an aneurism, then yes.
💀
Maybe because you’ve never heard of every website ever?
