The Netherlands and Flanders in Belgium has a lot of people understanding English. I’d suggest countries such as nl, be, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, …
For a Roman country, I’d suggest Portugal. However the trick there is to work online for a company from your home country. While enjoying the low cost of living there.
Here in flanders I live with my wife who is from Indonesia. She’s been learning Dutch when she arrived since 2023 December. Whenever we talk to people, we speak in English. While the person then talks in Dutch to me whenever communication wouldn’t be entirely easy for them.
The level of English is fine here. Job opportunities are limited for English speakers though. You’d need to find an international company that has everything in English.
Or a physical labour job.
My wife has a law degree, but until she masters Dutch, she will need to continue her job as a cleaner. (High minimum wage in Belgium, the job she does is 2/3rd subsidised by government. Which makes hiring people easier).
I have an accountancy job and honestly, everything is in Dutch. All the documents. Companies communicating with eachother is all done in Dutch so when that language isnt mastered, then it’s impossible to be productive enough at a desk job.
Brussels might have companies that hire English speakers. However, Brussels is a place where you thrive when you speak Dutch, french and English.
Like at the airport last Sunday all the employees there spoke to me in Dutch, to my wife in English and to other people in french.
Personally I would suggest Ghent. Most English speaking city in Belgium.

I’ve heard Ireland is good. No idea of how true that is, but they do speak English, if reluctantly.
That said, the actual Irish language is rather melodic, and learning it is a fun project.
Netherlands is best for money I hear, especially for the tax cut you get the first 5 years.
I live in Estonia and it has a nice startup culture, chill atmosphere, and just a great place to live, but salary is peanuts compared to NL unless you work for Wise, Bolt, or one of the 134234234 online casino providers. CoL is of course much lower than western Europe, but still much higher than it should be at the salary level here. But software engineers easily make 2-3x median salary, with 5-7x median salary not out of the realm of possibility at high-end positions in high-end companies. So you won’t be strapped for cash if you’re good.
But will be one of the first countries in EU that goes Nazi, I fear.

My CPU was mid range when I bought it five years ago and I use it process a 300gb+ database of price history. My day job is working jupyter notebooks hosted on raspberry pis. Not being able to process a 60000 row database is definitely a skill issue. Bad hardware should encourage good software.

Mate, I’ve worked with government computers. A dacade old, take a half hour to boot up, a lag time of a few minutes to open files. The problem with what Elon’s “expert” said is that 1. 60k rows of data is nothing, even for a computer like that. It wouldn’t fail on that much data, even on decade-old computers. And 2. If something were to fail on that computer, it wouldn’t be that the hard drive overheated. Even if the hard drive got hot, it would just slow things down, not prevent data access or stop a query.
My personal guess is this: The kid started a query on a table of a few million records. Not a lot, but enough to make a very poorly optimized query take a decent bit of ttime to run on trash hardware. Most databases put timeouts on connections as to not let a runaway query run forever. I’m guessing that after like, 20 minutes or so (pretty high for a cutoff, but if they are expecting garbage computers to be running these queries it could make sense) it times out, returning the partial result of the query. “Expert” thinks that his laptop overheated because the laptop is in fact hot.

its true in some sense, if the pay goes out the window for scientist they will flee. theres already problems in the us getting people from undergrad to PHD(thats besides the current attack on it). such as wet lab work prior to graduation, plus who can even apply to grad school, if you dont have barely just to be under the requirements of grad schools. job prospects is low.
also grad school is more expensive since its not considered undergrad courses, and they charge more and you get no priority in classes. the biggest is wet lab work, where do you find it, catch 22

This time it seems to be Fascism fueled by a “European” identity alongside a “German or Italian” identity. Though state nationalism is growing it seems to be growing along with EU nationalism.
It’s very much fueled by anti immigrant (primarily anti Arab) sentiment. The most obvious of which is Germany. A country that has a national identity built around guilt for the Holocaust but at the same time pretending that they have some unobtainable (by others) perspective on Antisemitism. Which ironically is fueling modern day Antisemitism against Arabs in Germany.

The term “Semetic” comes from the Eugenics categories that originated in the 20th century. It actually has racist roots that popularized the term in Nazi Germany. There were people that proudly proclaimed to be “anti-Semitic”.
Semetic was a term to describe people of a “race” from the Semetic regions. These were categorized as people that spoke Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic languages. Basically people from modern day Arab countries and Israel.
Now, the Nazis viewed Jews as “Ungerman” even though they absolutely were German people. The Jews in Germany had lived their for centuries and spoke German and Yiddish (a variant of German enough to be considered a different language). Again, the Germans viewed Yiddish as a “Semetic” corruption of the German language.
So when the Nazis said they were “Antisemitic” they were categorizing German Jews as “not belonging” and associating them with the “Semetic” region.
It was basically a way of categorizing the German Jews as outsiders in order to associate them with Arabs and the “Semetic” people.
Because of the history of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust the term “antisemitic” has evolved to basically mean “anti Jewish” today. Even though it was originally a term to “otherize” German Jews and categorize them with Arabs. It fed on the existing racism towards outsiders and categorized German Jews as such.
So when I said “Antisemitism against Arabs” I was referencing this history. As Arabs are by definition “Semetic” people.
The same type of “otherizing” of Arabs and Muslims in Germany is being done today. But this time the focus is not on Jews. But these are the same structures of racism and Fascism that existed in 1930s Germany. And there is no reason for Jewish people not to be categorized as “others” again as this fascist history repeats itself.
