In land restoration, there’s a tendency to plant grasses in historically treed ecosystems, since they’re fast establishing. However, this often sets back restoration efforts, as the grasses out compete the woody species and planted trees.

Yeah, this is definitely not as common of a misconception as you think. I’ve personally never heard anyone say anything about what they think a prairie is. And even if it is somewhat common, it’s not detrimental in any way.
