Berlin-based climate research institute Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) has released a new study indicating that, in the last decade, the cost of solar power has dropped by 87 percent, and the cost of battery storage by 85 percent.
Gotta have a couple people up on a roof, running cables, setting up mounting brackets (in a way that doesn’t cause the roof to leak), and carrying somewhat fragile solar panels. The power company has to approve the connection. Every house is a custom job.
Compare that to setting up a bunch of frames on a field. Still have some red tape with the power company, but you can mass produce this shit from common building blocks. The inverter will also be larger, and therefore cost less per MW.
We need to be encouraging community solar, where the panels and the field they sit on are owned by the community that uses them.
