Somehow, this shorthair cat got a lump of fur tangled up on her back. My mom finally managed to remove it.

How old is the cat? I had one that lived to be 20+; the last few years, she was too achy to be able to lick and clean along her spine, so the fur matted there unless we brushed her down vigorously every day.
She’s pretty young. Under 8 years old. We think she got soap or something on her from sitting in the sink and that’s what caused it.
Another good solution for tangles like this is taking warm oil and trying to run a comb through it. Helps break up tangles and stuff for anyone else having issues! Glad little girl is doing better!
