For youtube there’s uYouPlus, but if you want a system wide adblocker you probably can’t do more than AdGuard DNS (search online how (or if) you can set it up on an ipad)

On iphone i use video lite, (after the 2 week free trial) there is 1 ad when opening it (if you get one thats longer than 5 sec, just restart the app), then there are no more ads. Also you can minimize it and use picture-in-picture

Not sure if its available on ipad, though

      brave browser

works on all OS, blocks all ads by default. you still get the “ad blockers arent allowed” but you can just inspect element and block the popup from showing

          1. i dont care about the political stance of the CEO at all

          2. i have all ads (even brave ones) deactivated

          3. all i care is the blockage of all ads which is nowdays a rarity without extensive tweaking of open source browser code

          4. thanks for sharing this for all those who do care as i know not everyone will agree with meon the first 3 points

…so what do you use instead?

No, really, what browser can you use where none of the influential developers involved is some kind of asshole and/or ultracapitalist? Chrome? If Chrome is off the table, wouldn’t that “infect” all the Chromium-based browsers? Firefox is out for the same reasons Brave is, I guess, due to the same guy.

Where is the line drawn? At what point does any software become okay to use? Linus Torvalds used to be a real cunt, though I’ve heard his attitude towards us mortals has improved over the last decade or so. Does that mean I can use Linux on Thursdays now?

This purity testing is stupid because you readily use a bunch of random crap where you have no idea how bigoted or not the creators are. It is literally impossible to vet everything. I don’t use Brave, but it has nothing to do with this random C-level asshole. Being some kind of asshole is a requirement for a C-level position anyway, so let’s not pretend like Mitchell Baker is a saint or that Sundar Pichai walks on water. It’s all the same mush.

In the end, I care if the software is good. Firefox serves my needs just fine, so that’s what I use most of the time. Not as a political stance, but because I’m comfortable with the software. I bet at least 18 people involved secretly hate cats. Oh no, that means my purity is compromised. Oooof Nooooof!

Not really a hotbutton issue for me, but your entire screed is predicated on ruling out firefox because the guy WAS there previously. AFAICT that’s a bit of a strawman because although he was controversial when he was there, the folks you are railing against for their “purity tests” are not complaining about the influence of that guy on firefox since he’s not there anymore.

The answer to your question is “just ignore these concerns that don’t matter to you and use what you want” - not sure why that’s a reason to be on some kind of soapbox about people who DO care about these things.

No one is going to come check your computer so they can yell at you about whose software you are using. People are just sharing what they see as important info for people to consider. As one does on social media.

Edit: And there’s always ungoogled Chromium, but yes that does drive towards a web where no one checks if anything renders correctly on anything but the Chromium base.

I’m not the one purity testing, so I don’t know how long the taint sticks.

Also, on the subject of soap boxes, I’m just babbling on the internet. We all come here to read and express opinions, right? Mine is that there is no way I can possibly know who associated with what product donated to what political campaign, so I’m having trouble mustering outrage about this one asshole doing asshole things. They’re all assholes.

If anything, my soap box cry is “Meh, whatever”

I’m trying to bootleg hockey since I’m blacked out on paid services so I need something better than brave.
