He’s said he’s happy to go to jail and I believe him.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t happen but if it does it will grow and solidify support for him even more and whilst he’s very far from a smart man, he’s cunning enough to know this and use it.

Nope. His supporters like him because he gets away with things. They want to be him because they want power. They have little control over their daily lives and they think they deserve more, by any means necessary.

If he’s locked up it’s a downer. It makes him look weak. If you think jail will make Trump a martyr, you don’t understand why his supporters like him.

They want power. They want to be on top. When (not if) he’s put under house arrest, he will go down in popularity.

That’s not how I see it at all. He has constantly played on his persecution complex - his whole schtick since 2020 has been conspiracy based on a ‘stolen election’ and how they’re all out to get him - and it’s very popular. He’s the leading republican nominee. His supporters will see him being jailed as confirmation of everything he’s already saying ‘they all hate Trump’, ‘they’re trying to stop Trump being president’.

He understands exactly what motivates his supporters and him being perfectly happy to go to jail for contempt should tell you everything you need to know.

He acts persecuted but rarely is actually punished. That’s the key. You’re trusting him when he tells you he’s persecuted.

He was punished by Covid and lost the election. He and most of the people he supported lost the election. Republicans lost both GA Senate seats because of him (and good GOTV work by Democrats).

It was one of the biggest electoral losses in history for an incumbent president, mainly because his supporters were not as energized as Democrats.

When (not if) he loses one of his many felony cases, they are going to put him under house arrest and he will not be able to campaign. He will look like a powerless loser and his supporters will be dejected.

No, I’m not - but every single one of his supporters and all those wavering are.

Your country sleptwalked into a Trump presidency in 2016 because everyone thought it wasn’t possible for him to win, because it was clear how awful he is. You’re running the risk of underestimating him again.

              Your country

Oh, you’re from somewhere outside the US. Your ideas about Trump supporters mean very little now, since you don’t actually interact with them in daily life. Online doesn’t count. Those are mainly edgy teens.

To a point, that’s true. But it will also convince the easily swayed. Definitely in enough numbers to get re-elected if there’s a repetition of voter behaviour of 2016. I just really hope everyone who can, votes. Or, failing that, he gets sent down for life.
