Ah sweet! Something incredibly common that I’d never given second thought to is actually terrible in a way that seems blatantly obvious in hindsight
Many such cases
Modern life in a nutshell, really
Jesus fucking christ.
The UK, and I cannot emphasize this enough, must be destroyed . Balkanization would be a far too kind fate for perfidious albion.
And it’s not just .io, there are a bunch of other ones as well, things like .sh for Saint Helena, and .ac for Ascension Island. The more you look, the worse it gets. There are some exceptions like .tv, which is for Tuvalu, but funds from .tv actually go to the people of Tuvalu and are used to fund things on the island like their “Future Now” project, which provides mitigation plans for infrastructure and maritime boundaries affected by climate change.
that’s the nation which has decided to completely abandon their homes because there is no hope of salvage?
possibly the most forward thinking group of people on the planet.
It hasn’t been abandoned yet, it has a population of about 11,000 people, but I can see it happening in the future if we don’t do something about the climate crisis. :(
This reminds me that the TLD
.nu
was stolen from the island of Niue, along with it’s profits, by The Swedish Internet Foundation in 2013. Apparently important for Sweden’s national security or something. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.nuWhile on this topic, does anyone know what became of the
.zip
thing?Here’s a .zip example nitter.x86-64-unknown-linux-gnu.zip and a link Adam Johnson (@adamjohnsonCHI)
It’s a shame they can’t be used a left and a right bookend.
I always thought these trendy tech domains were kind of silly.
Wow, I’d never heard of this. Horrifying.
Fuck icann
great read, now im depressed.
“I had dogs which I brought to the beach with me. At low tide they would go out and catch fish and bring them in and lay them at my feet.”

Not as far as I’m aware, it’s a common TLD for spammers and scam websites, so it may be seen as suspicious, but it’s actually managed by a Chinese company!
