I don’t agree, but I get why they think what they think.
I agree that the writing can be better though, however can’t we just watch something to laugh anymore?
They’re wrong. I’m sure family guy has been on for 23 seasons because it sucks. LOL
Not because it’s still good, but because it’s easy money.
True, but if people aren’t watching, it’s not making money!
“If you look closely at the writing in ‘Family Guy’, you will see that the jokes never derive from the plot, and I think that’s totally gay.”
-Osama bin Laden
The last time I tried to watch it, the show seemed to just be bad references. It had become the manatee joke. I’ve got no problem if you like Family Guy. I watched it for a while. I really liked The Cleveland Show and American Dad much more
If the jokes can’t be written into the story, then they shouldn’t be interrupting the story.
Macfarlane has a very distinct type of humor that is very in-your-face, and it’s in everything he does. Ted, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and especially Ted 2, just feel like a live-action Family Guy and it’s not great.
I’ve always said that Family Guy’s humor is for those people that tell jokes you politely laugh at.
I thought it was a pretty good critique by South Park but I still liked the first 5-6 seasons of Family Guy back in the day, random joke structure and all. It was a funny show.
It just never really innovated much on that formulas and went on for way too long. I don’t understand why it wasn’t cancelled a long time ago.
It really is a show that continued to rest on its laurels.m, rather than innovating.
The first 5 seasons of Family Guy are full of bust out laughing jokes. It feels like hating to hate to deny it.
Yeah the first three seasons of Family Guy hold a special place in my heart and life. I used to stay up late to watch them on Adult Swim back in like 2002-2003. Those initial seasons (before they were cancelled and brought back for a 4th season) actually told stories and the characters weren’t one note vessels for jokes. The show has fallen so far, everyone is so mean spirited and there’s no characterization, Lois is the best example of this. She actually used to love her kids and act like a mother, now she’s just as mean as Peter is to Chris and Meg and basically hates her children. South Park definitely called out the show on its awful writing and it was so glorious to see it when it first happened.
Even Seth doesn’t understand why it’s still running. He wants it to end. Hell his only contribution to the show for the last decade is voices
It was canceled. Twice. It keeps coming back like the undead.
When was the second time? I thought it was just after season 1.
Personally I like both shows. I mean south park is kinda better but I still like both shows. They’re still not my favorite shows (but South Park is definitely top 10.)
I love all adult animations. For me it goes in this order South Park #1 Simpsons #2 Rick and Morty #3 American Dad # 4 Futurama # 5 Family Guy #6 Solar opposites #7 And the list goes on
I sometimes think people forget the closing message Matt and Trey said about Family Guy lol
To me, the 3 seasons before their cancellations, then some of season 4 after the return were great! But they ran out of ideas long ago.
I enjoyed the first 4 or 5 seasons of family guy as a teenager. And there’s still gags that I think are hilarious, like the Adam West cameos. And I loved all the little nostalgia throwbacks but that might just be because of my age. But as the show grew, I liked it less and less. Whereas I’ve never stopped watching Southpark, I don’t enjoy the newer episodes quite as much as I used to. But I still love Southpark and think Matt and Trey are much better writers.
I watch every adult cartoon going, multiple times. Family guy is not my least favourite (that honour goes to Big Mouth/Human Resources) but it’s nowhere near the top or even middle of my favourite cartoon shows.
First 3 seasons were class. Beyond that, as Seth stepped away the show became a caricature of itself.
Family Guy isn’t a show you watch to make you think or feel anything.
Not saying it’s good or bad, just saying it’s got its place.
