Hey, please report any transphobia so I can take care of it or an admin if they see it in the queue first. That being said, if you can, also please shoot me a private message on this account with a link to the offending content. Or shoot me a message on Discord (I’m in the Lemmy.world discord channel) with a link to the content.

Notifications don’t happen for reports or anything and I have to jump across two different accounts and check modqueues due to federation being a lil wonky. I don’t always catch them on that second account because I use it less often. So please shoot me a message with any reports <3 Thanks!

I’ve been repeatedly described as having “resting murder face”. Ignoring my size, that alone usually gets people to clear out.

I can’t remember where I heard it but it’s accurate. It also doesn’t help that I don’t blink very often and I just stare off into space while having some ADHD daydreams. I’ve seen people get up and move to the other end of the bus or subway car because I was just zoned out and thinking. They looked genuinely scared and kept looking back down at me.

It’s so bad that if I’m walking around at night or something and the only other person around is a woman I tend to just start playing up the gay mannerisms because otherwise I’ve had people genuinely look shaken. I dunno if you’ve heard the bit from John Mulaney about essentially chasing a woman in the middle of the night with her freaking the hell out but that has more or less happened to me and I’m really trying not to repeat that lol

Oh bless you. I feel bad. I am anxious enough walking around outside in rather empty places, even if it is about as safe as it gets. I don’t have anything constructive to say unfortunately, but I typically look for a vibe in people and try and be on my way instead of assuming the worst. Maybe I am naive. I am really sorry you have to go through that! You can have a hug from this Internet stranger. I truly wish we didn’t have to be so afraid.

I finally found out that your username is a reference to a character on ST:Discovery. If I ever watch the show, I will likely end up thinking of you every time that character is on screen.

I also have “resting murder face,” but I’m told that I’m a nice guy if you ignore the intensity of my “deep in thought” face.

Please do! The show is fairly entertaining and I gotta love my little gay man Stamets. First openly gay main Star Trek character. Meant a huge amount to me. The fact that he’s also a mycologist and loves mushrooms? Man after my own heart.

Wow. So much for the lemmy community here.

The only opinion I’m giving is respect others regardless of how anyone feels on the matter. And that still stands. I’m not giving any opinion on lgbtq+.

But all these comments about “hitting others” and name calling is the complete opposite of respect. If someone has a view that you don’t agree with then talk, or say OK and leave the conversation.

Don’t read too deep and make assumptions with my comments. My intentions are true, I just want a global community of respect.

he only opinion I’m giving is respect others regardless of how anyone feels on the matter.

And that opinion is the problem. What you’re advocating for is to give equal respect to trans people and people who actively want to punish trans people for existing. Your opinion is inherently disgusting.

No one needs to ‘read deep’. Your intentions are surface level. You are advocating for giving respect to those who hold the opinions that trans people should not exist and that it is a mental illness. The two are not similar and they are not deserving of respect.

However I am going to ban you from this community now for a week while leaving your comments up just to point out how idiotic this stance is, how dangerous it is to trans people, how tone deaf it is, how disrespectful it is, and exactly the type of shit you shouldn’t say. Also that if you display this type of idiotic behavior that you deserve to be mocked and ridiculed endlessly for supporting those who do exactly that to people below them.

Sit down, shut up and think about what you said. Read the responses from those who are actually impacted and stop trying to equate hate with love.

Here’s the question. I have absolutely nothing against trans people existing and reject any politics that do anything harmful to them, but I have some doubts about why people become trans and how all this works for children. Do you put me in the second group?

I think you’re close to it but not over the line yet. That questioning is often used against trans folks. Provided you’re being respectful and coming from a place of genuine ignorance due to false information from the bigots then I’m not sure it’s an issue.

However I will bring said that the way it works for children is not remotely a threat. Kids do not undergo severe therapy. They get “gender affirming care”. All that means is that they’re called what they wanna be called. If they have questions then they ask. You wouldn’t undergo any therapy that could not be undone. None of the therapy is harmful either with studies showing that there isn’t any impact on the kids. Note that straight men under go gender affirming care too. That would be stopping hair loss and erectile dysfunction as an example. GAC is just about making the person not feel like shit. If the kid changes their mind then they change their mind. No harm, no foul.

As for doubts, they are irrelevant. They’re people living their own lives and not hurting anyone. Someone’s doubts don’t get to override their life. They wanna be trans? Let 'em be trans. They’re not hurting anyone, no matter what those 4 articles that get trotted out constantly say. A couple shit heads doesn’t reflect across an entire community. People don’t get to freak out about ACAB but then throw the same energy at the trans community.

I don’t have a problem with anything else you said there, but I do have a problem with this level of argument, which essentially claims that “if you think differently from me, you’re stupid and your sources are evil”.

No. It is not. It is saying what I said. If you are coming at this from a place of genuine ignorance then no one is going to be upset. You do not get to say “it is unconvincing” when the thing you’re claiming is unconvincing simply didn’t exist. I’m going to ask you this once. Do not shove words into other peoples throats and assume what they are saying. As for clarification. I am not appreciative of having a stance forced on me that I did not make at any point. The only thing you could try and argue that for (and fail the argument of) is the bit about false information from bigots. You are conflating me saying bigots with everyone who is confused by the situation. That is a you problem. Not a me problem. i’m not saying that everyone is confused or ignorant is a bigot. I am specifically saying that bigots are bigots. If you have an issue with that then you need to look internally before you start accusing others of anything.

The thing that gives me doubt is that we are clearly seeing increased levels of mental problems in young people due to smart device and social media use. This was made worse by Covid.

And? Completely and utterly irrelevant to the situation at hand unless you’re trying to argue that being transgendered is a mental illness. That would be transphobia and would result in you gaining a permanent ban from this community and likely from the instance as a whole, as others in this thread have discovered. That isn’t a threat. It is a fact. I’m not trying to muscle you or overpower you or be big boss man. I’m trying to say that the behavior is repugnant because it isn’t true and pushes a genuinely dangerous narrative that puts others in harms way. For that reason, it is completely unacceptable.

And there’s a correlation between mental problems and transgenderism.

Yes. There is also a correlation between skirt length and the strength of the economy. However, it is completely worthless information that is not of any value to anyone as correlation does not equal causation. Ever think that the reason that trans folks are dealing with higher than normal levels of depression, anxiety and other levels of mental health issues are because of people who keep conflating being trans with having a mental disorder? They have mental health issues because people keep giving them mental health issues by not allowing them to exist. Here’s a shocker but kids who are actually listened to as a kid and brought up healthily as a trans kid and provided that gender affirming care I mentioned before? They end up having lower levels of mental health problems. Why? Because they had a stable support network of parents who listened to them and cared about them instead of trying to force their child to be something else because of their own mistaken beliefs on something they don’t understand.

So what I’m really after is trying to protect my kids from unnecessary harm,

Your feelings are irrelevant. You want to protect your kids? Then let your kids be themselves and stop trying to enforce and impose things upon them that are causing more damage than them being trans ever has.

and I feel like I need truth to do that, and I feel like I’m not getting that.

Your feelings do not matter. I don’t like the fact that the world sucks and I’m going to die younger than I should because of health problems but tough titties. The world is the way that it is. What you feel is the truth does not matter. The truth is the truth. Pull your head out of your ass. Start listening to people who proven in their field and have the medical science to back it up and who are supported by the majority in their field, not the minority who claim nonsense. Vaccines don’t cause autism and being trans isn’t a mental health disorder. Why? Because there is no evidence for it but there is a vast amount of evidence from people who have demonstrated, time and time again, that the people who keep saying “they don’t feel like it’s true” are dead wrong.

I don’t respect you, and i think your opinion is bad because it smacks of cowardice and servility.

I’m of the opinion that you aren’t qualified to have an opinion, or a voice. I would like to see you banned because your “opinion” has had so many powerful rebuttals to it (that you haven’t and will not read).

      I propose mods permaban you.

See, its not enough for me to block you. I believe your very existence on this platform, your insipid worldview, to be problematic. If i had the power to erase your dumb opinion from the whole world, i would.i really would.

You, who you are, your connections and loves, they mean nothing to me. Your existence is only this dumb fucking opinion, if you died and brought that opinion with you, i actually would feel nothing but relief.

      Do you respect my opinion?

(do you see what i tried to do there? Did i make it to overt? Not calling for anyone being hurt, c’mon. But yo man take the lesson, Christ!)

At what point can we stop both sidesing everything? Is it when trans people are banned from public spaces? Is it when they’re rounded up and put into camps to be converted back? At what point are opinions no longer valid to you? Because clearly wiping out an entire sector of people isn’t that line.
