For a 13yo who hasn’t been sheltered exactly but also doesn’t need any ideas. I showed her the Holiday Songs episode from season 3. I was thinking the “Shit” episode, but what else?

No offense, but any 13-year-old that goes to a public school has been exposed to way worse by their friends and classmates than anything in South Park.
Especially in the age of the internet.
If the child’s under 10, I would understand the concern. 13 though? Not really.
I was taught right and wrong, reality and fiction, by my parents when I was very young. I never took “advice” or “ideas” from anything in the adult media I watched as a child.
As a 13 year old I have learned more things from my school that’s a private school than SP has
My kids rib me all the time for allowing them to watch SP but the thing is I’ve seen enough to know what I do/don’t want them to watch and even on some of the more uncomfortable episodes if there’s a lesson to learn I’ll open a dialogue and educate them if needed. They see so much out of my control and awareness and I’d rather curate that as best I can do they’re prepared for more heinous shit that really deserves my attention cuz at least the dialogue was started
My mom was skeptical of letting my sister and I watch SpongeBob when we were kids based off of what she had heard about the show. So she decided to watch an episode of it to see if it would be ok for my sister and I to watch.
Of course, the episode she saw was the “Sailor Mouth” episode where all the (numerous) cuss words are bleeped out by fish noises. The entire episode revolves around cussing and my sister and I were VERY sheltered by my mom.
So yeahhh it was a few years later until my sister and I were allowed to watch SpongeBob 😂.
Ooooohhh boi, yeah sometimes it be like that unfortunately. I’m sorry. My kids mom had similar reservations but I’m nothing but a grown assed kid so I can vet shit like that. SpongeBob is the least of my worries. They watch total drama island with no supervision and I feel like that’s way worse than anything SpongeBob has ever done
Yeah I feel like Cartoon Network had sketchier stuff than SpongeBob. Most of the adult jokes in SpongeBob I was too young to understand anyways.
But between school and eventually watching South Park, I learned about most of the stuff she was trying to hide
At least the worst that can happen watching South Park is they end up trying to kill the Jews. It could be worse, they could be fans of family guy
Nowadays especially. SP would’ve been a lot more shocking when it first came out compared to today.
My kid doesn’t go to public school 🤷🏻♀️
Then what are you scared of? Your kids being “too” cool?
Hasn’t been sheltered, eh?
She doesn’t need to start acting like Cartman 😂😂 she’s also very, uh, passionate about social justice issues and I am NOT going to fight with her about a damn cartoon.
Well don’t then lol explain the humour instead and try and convey what the issue the episodes are detailing is. Show them other viewpoints and ways of seeing things rather than your own personal opinions. They’re only your kid, they’re not you. Let them figure it out on their own
Lol nah ignore them I’m glad I wasn’t allowed to watch South Park or Game of Thrones either. 13 is very young and impressionable. I did play stick of truth in highschool though and I was shocked at one part of the game 😭 I wouldn’t say I was sheltered but I’m glad my parents didn’t expose me to any lewd or crass content. And low-key the people I knew in middle school and highschool that were south Park fans did act like Cartman 💀 They were not the nicest kids and class clown types and did curse a lot… I would say the more sheltered kids at my school were those that weren’t allowed to watch SpongeBob or Harry Potter. Anyways I’m about to graduate college and have just picked it up after the Black Friday episode was suggested a couple days before Thanksgiving. I’ll say this show is genius 😂 And the Photoshop episode almost made me tear up. I looked it up and I was shocked that the episode came out so long ago. Actually I was literally in middle school when it came out 😭 I love that you’re semi censoring it for your kid. And coming from a former 13 year old, seeing spicy scenes and crude jokes with my parents always made me cringe 😬 Still does! Anyways thanks for asking this question! I’m definitely going to watch the episodes people recommended!
Wouldn’t it be healthier to be able to enjoy a TV show that you like with your parents without feeling uncomfortable? Why is feeling uncomfortable around your own parents a good thing in the slightest?
Lol I thought this was a universal feeling when kissing scenes come on with your parents until death jk jk
fr. if they actually made an accurate movie about middle school, it would be rated R.
