ChiBike ruled, I would love to see a little bike community form here.
New to the bike scene and always looking for group/community rides. I’ve loved the last two Critical Masses and can’t wait for the one later in June: https://thechainlink.org/events/chicago-critical-mass-957
I ride a '88 aluminum Trek 1000 I picked up from Working Bikes and absolutely love it. If you see me around town give me a ring!
Edit: I started c/chibike, come check it out!
Yeah, I’m a cyclist too! I run the sweet roll ride that is every other month https://twitter.com/SweetRollCHI
This is awesome, love to see organizers interested in alternative spaces! I RSVP’d yesterday for the July ride 🥐❤.
(A few of us are active on mastodon using the #bikechi tag, could be another place to promote this as it gets closer)
I looked into mastadon twice… and then just didn’t hahaha
Curious to see if there are enough pedalers who would make the jump to Lemmy since chibike is soo good atm.
Maybe they all use a third party app, that spelled it out for me anyway.
A few groups such as Chicago bike grid now and better streets Chicago have semi active mastodon accounts. I would definitely like to see chibike and carfreechicago communities replicated here on lemmy.
Yeah I was thinking about asking as the change gets closer. Im sure a good amount of them are using a 3rd party, myself included(apollo).
This seems like a viable replacement but a fully featured ios app is needed, mlem is getting a little better everyday but its still got a ways to go. It would be great to see some of those 3rd party devs embrace lemy or kbin, that would make the transition almost painless.
I think the cycling community is predisposed to Lemmy based on the worldview of the average cyclist (read:not all)
Cyclist here! You can catch me at community events on my Brompton! Chicago Bike Sox tailgates are a lot of fun!
The last bike sox tailgate looked like a great time. I’d consider going to the next one and skipping the game!
You don’t have to go to the game at all! I have just done the tailgate before too.
I also ride a aluminum hybrid bike from working bikes. I try to do the majority of my local trips by bike and also really enjoy group rides. I’ve been working to improve bike infrastructure on the southwest side. Really excited because CDOT is currently working with us and we also have a supportive alder for the first time.
