I forget which season it’s in, but LD has one of my favourite tidbits of worldbuilding in all of ST. In the episode where they are goofing on the TOS movies, there is a scene where Kayshon busts through a door and shouts “Temba!” before shooting a bad guy. Thereby establishing that the Tamarian “Temba, his arms wide” not only means “take this” in the sense of sharing/offering something to someone, but also means “Take this!” in the sense of an exclamation when attacking someone.

Oohh, good catch! I missed that. I still can’t believe there’s a Tamarian on the show, he’s awesome!

I understood “Temba, his arms wide” to mean a gift/offering.

Kayshon shouting “Temba!” was even funnier because he’s basically saying “Here’s a present!”

I wasn’t expecting to love Lower Decks so much, knew I’d enjoy it but it really is incredible. Star Trek has always had a little sprinkling of goofiness but LD turns it up to 11!

The crossover episode is amazing too, didn’t realise how much the animators based the characters on the voice actors.

I rolled my eyes when I saw one of the first promo posters. I thought it was gonna be super snarky and unfunny, but am glad I was wrong! I shouldn’t have judged. It’s also pretty dramatic and sad at times, which really threw me off at first because it’s just so well done, you know? The writing is top notch.

Oh that crossover one on SNW was great, they somehow made it work! Loved that remark Mariner and Boimler made about how every talks so quietly and slowly.

Also, I’m mostly a lurker, but I’ve been here since a bunch of us left the Bad Place and I want to reintroduce myself. I used to go by - - - (will edit this out later) and I really appreciate the steady stream of memes and hilarious conversation. You guys are awesome. @Stamets, I am a big fan

I want to watch season 3 but its not available in Australia with my Amazon prime subscription.

Streaming services that then want more money are heading the way of cable tv.

Paramount repatriated the show to Paramount+ just about everywhere.

Star Trek is even on P+ in Canada now, although we still have the shows coming in on premium cable via Media as well.

I guess I’ll never see it because I’m not paying for another streaming service, I’ve slowly be cancelling them instead.

Well, you’ll need to decide which service(s) has more of what you want to see.

Many of us are rotating subscriptions at this point. The streamers fret about ‘churn’ but few households can justify a menu of services at one time any more than they could afford a half dozen premium cable channels.

    It’s great, isn’t it?

When it first came out, I was still pissed about what Discovery season 1 did to Klingons. (Not to say I’m not still pissed about that, but anyway.) And I didn’t give Lower Decks the benefit of the doubt. (“Oh now they want to make even more of a mockery of my beloved Star Trek by turning it into an animated comedy?”)

But I eventually gave it a chance and I’m glad I did.

Honestly I’m surprised they actually did manage to pull off a Star Trek comedy without appearing to make fun of Star Trek and its fans. But they did. (At least in my view they did.)

It’s because everyone working on the show is also a huge fan

I have to admit, I also had issues with Disco; the Klingons’ prosthetics made it hard to understand them, like they had a collective speech impediment or something. Some other minor nitpicky things too, but I largely got over it all. I’m digging what the show is doing now and am sad to see it ending so soon.

I know, right? Serious props to the writing team. Sometimes I feel like I’m watching a really smart meta satire/parody and I have to remind myself, like, “wait, this shit is canon!”

I do think Boimler is supposed to represent the ultimate TNG fanboy, though it’s done tastefully and lovingly. The way he marks out over meeting Tom Paris or the plot of random TNG episodes is hilarious and is a lot like how we all talk sometimes.

      Ah, such a great show!!

I was watching some of the behind the scenes extras and it’s incredible just how many tiny references they put into every scene. Clearly a lot of care has gone into it

You haven’t got to it yet, but I think my favorite quote in the show is “I don’t know, Tyrannikillicus, but I can try.”

It only gets better the further you get.

I love it so much I’m already rewatching it and am noticing things I missed the first time through.
