I appreciated how the reddit app I used (relay) kept everything internal. I don’t want all the links I open on this app opening in my browser and plugging up my history. I doubly appreciated how it would open YouTube links in an internal video player that wasn’t linked to my YouTube account in any way. This is a must have for me to prevent my YouTube “algorithm” from getting any ideas. For example, I watch a video about “X” and now my whole feed is suggesting I watch more videos about whatever “X” was.

Same for image links, I don’t like switching to my browser every time I want to look at an image.
The alpha build included a community contribution that opens significantly more image links directly in-app.
arguably it’s just a stopgap solution, but i really like quickib for viewing image links
it’s meant as an imgur uploader, but it works as a viewer (not open source though)
Funny. The main thing I hate about the official reddit app is that the ability to open links in external browsers is removed for some reason. It’s also what made me switch to a infinity.
There’s nothing stopping anybody from opening a yt link in am external browser in relay. I just like the convinience of keeping everything in one app and keeping WHT I look at in reddit separate from what I look at kn YouTube.
Pro android tip: use NewPipe (or similar app) instead of a browser for YouTube links. Just make sure to set the app to open the supported links by default in android settings.

I love Newpipe but I couldn’t get over how cumbersome importing subs was for me. Also not having my watch history was mildly annoying. I switched to ReVanced about 2 weeks ago and haven’t opened my YT app since.
This is true. Although I think NewPipe has its place for when you don’t want to link your watch history to your Google account. So I use it like private mode for YouTube.

Agree-ish. It needs the ability to open and display common link types, videos, images, etc.
RiF had an ok system for decisions about what to try and open/display.
For example, I prefer YouTube to open in NewPipe rather than an in app browser, but that might be different for you.
As a workaround for now, you could consider using a browser like Firefox focus. It’s basically an always-incognito browser.
Just a suggestion, I’d like to see people avoiding YouTube links and instead posting Invidious instance links to those same videos. Why? FUCK THE POLICE.

On the other hand, an embedded link viewer has no uBlock and other extensions/privacy settings as my browser does. Id rather just open youtube in forefox.
Now that I think about it relay must have something like this built in because I never saw ads or scripts running in the internal browser
The ability to use custom tabs has been good enough for me, but I guess an internal WebView could be a good option for some users as well.
Protip regarding the YouTube recommendations algorithm: you can go to playback history and remove and entry from there. That way, it’s like you never watched it in the first place, and as such, you shouldn’t get any more recommendations based on that playback.
What do you mean by custom tab? When I open a link it opens in the same kind of Firefox but not Firefox that a Gmail link would open in. Also, I would prefer not to do a wipe of my yt everytime I watch a video on how paperclips are made and yt decides paperclip videos are the way to go. Oh right so that is the current behavior. This still ends up with your browser history picking up everything that you go to in the app. I don’t like this.

I personally would not like having links not open in Firefox, since I would lose the large amount of improvements I get from Firefox extensions. I also launch everything by default in private browsing, so the history issue is moot for me.

LATEST UPDATE HAS ONE WOOOOOO
The latest update does not have an internal browser. It runs a “lite” version of whatever your browser is. Meaning every link followed in the app ends up in your browser history. This is what I want to avoid.
