After the fall of the last Samurai in Japan during the 1870s the Japanese remodeled their forces in the style of the first rate European militaries of the era. This included changing from the traditional Katana to the Western calvary saber.

But this wouldn’t last as in the 1930s as part of the rising nationalism in Japan their forces returned to their traditional designed sword.

Here’s Ian’s video on a mass produced Katana for the Imperial Army of Japan. [13:01] https://youtu.be/GGoQYELw1Eg?si=

Meta question, are there any restrictions on who can post in this community?

I found an odd gun in a digitized collection of museums in Sweden, and have been trying to post it through the memmy app for several weeks but only get an error, and wanted to see if the issue is on my side or if there are rules in place here preventing anyone from posting.

Thank you for your time and have a happy new year!

No there’s no restrictions on who can post. Or at least I didn’t intentionally set any. I’ve been posting 3+ times a day for a month hoping to get the community to a point where I don’t have to post every day to keep it alive.

I’m the one guy on the fediverse who isn’t a programmer so I have no clue what the issue is you’re experiencing. Others have been able to post here. Maybe it’s a lemmy.zip issue? Maybe switching to a different instance could help.

Hope you have a happy New Year too!

Looking at the community, I don’t see any restrictions. There are other posters besides the Moderator.

Could be a problem with file size, see if you can crop the image slightly and see if that goes.

It most likely is the file size limit kicking in. Upload the images somewhere else and link them in the post body like this:

First thing you should try is posting from within the same instance, instead of from a different one. I see that your account is on lemmy.zip, so I would propose you make an account on lemmy.world, which is the instance that forgottenweapons is on and try to post from there. I would also try posting from a pc, using a browser, just to make sure memmy app is not the cause of the issue. You can also ask for help in https://lemmy.world/c/support.

The reason for a lot or error messages and issues with cross-instance post visibility is the last update. The issue is known and will be fixed. However that should not impact posting from within the same instance.
