So far Jerboa seems like the move, Thunder looks nicer, but it doesn’t seem to play nice with this instance so that’s kind of dead in the water, at least for now.

I figure at this point, forget about apps and stick to the website. Good Android apps will come in time.

A common problem to the whole fediverse is that if you are browsing a different instance from where you are registered, you can’t really interact with it. This wouldn’t be a problem if you could interact with the whole fediverse on your instance, but it’s not weird to see warnings like “The magazine from the federated server may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance” or similar.

This means that it’s impossible to interact with older posts that don’t appear on your instance. Am I the only one facing this problem?

I think it’s just Jerboa right now. You could set them up as progressive web apps I think, but I haven’t really looked into it.

Performance and stability can be ironed out. But the UI itself is already really solid. I love the animated comment collapse. This app is gonna be great a few months from now.

I tried the pwa, no where near as good as using jerboa. Just switched today. So much better on the app.

It is just Jerboa/Mlem for the time being.

Although it might be nice if Lemmy whips up a lightweight mobile site, like Reddit’s compact. The current one barely runs on my iPad.

Jerboa is the only actively developed option on Android right now.

That being said, a web wrapper like hermit is nice enough as an interim pick, if jerboa isn’t doing it for you.

Jerboa. It’s pretty bad though, I wouldn’t even really call it “usable” since it crashes so much, had to just browse on Firefox on my phone.

It just started, though. I’m sure once they get over the hiccough of the influx of new users, itll run smoother.

I haven’t had any issues with crashing (so far).

Yeah, I know, I do hope it gets better though, and I’ll be checking in on every new version they release. But the pessimist in me thinks many open source project has a tendency to not care about UX at all even after years of development (see: RetroArch on Android), which I hope won’t be true for Lemmy/Jerboa.

You know, in Jerboa, I can’t even access half the settings. Just doesn’t let me scroll. Don’t know if it’s just me.

Definitely some things I’m missing on jerboa. There’s no way to go to a post directly from your notification feed which is like… A crucial thing to be able to do.

What device / os are you using it on? I have it on a Pixel 4a and it works with no issues that I’ve noticed, been smooth sailing. Coming from RIF it also feels fairly familiar.

Jerboa is getting there, but for now I’d recommend using the progressive web app

From what I’ve seen, you can search for individual comments/posts related to a topic (advanced search), send private messages, you can see what’s trending and there are more options for moderators to manage and create communities.

But Jerboa is already good and I prefer the interface over the web app, especially on mobile. The only issue bothering me is table format is broken.

I put jerboa in the place where I used to have the Sync Pro app mostly just to start coming here out of habit. But a lot of times I end up browsing through chrome because I get a lot of random JSON parse errors in Jerboa. There’s a paid app called Fedilab I’m curious about but it doesn’t seem to work with Lemmy instances yet, I think it’s mostly for Mastodon.

Just signed up from Kbin to give it ago. Jerboa working nicely.

Kbin hasn’t got an app which really sucks.

Also want an app for kbin, but for the moment it is possible to “install” the web page via the mobile browser.
It will get a separate icon that way and you can put it on your home screen or in a folder. Not perfect, but at least something!
Open kbin in the browser and search your browser menu for the install option. For example, in Firefox it is hidden in the three dot menu.

Nevertheless, I also hope for an app soon.

thunder looks cool, but just like jerboa it is in early alpha, they can be a bit unstable, for the time being i’ll personally stick to the web browser.

I like how thunder looks, but not how I can’t blur nsfw posts. If I’m searching by active in public, I’d better not be seeing straight up lesbian sex on the front page of my feed, unblurred.

Trying Jerboa right now, don’t like it.

All text fields show as password fields, no dictionary, submitting a comment is slow af.
