I’ve been here for a few days, so I figured I should at least introduce myself. I’m an engineer from Georgia, and I must say that I’ve been enjoying this little corner of the fediverse, even though I haven’t interacted much.

You know, somehow I haven’t visited Colorado. Maybe one day. Up where my parents are in GA it seems to mostly be Floridians who are transplants from up north. The ATL is just people from all over these days as far as I can tell.
Atlanta is such a big city, I’d think it would have its own draw.
I suspect the vast majority of transplants from outside the southeast relocated for jobs. The same goes for people from the southeast, I guess. It’s the biggest city around. I can’t fathom there being a ton of reason to move here otherwise, but maybe I’m jaded after having lived in Atlanta for over 15 years.
It’s hot. It’s humid. The public transit is mediocre at best, so the traffic is terrible. And the center of the city is the merger of two major interstates. The Braves even fled for Cobb County.
At least the food and the beer are good, and the city still has some of its trees left. And somehow I still have some affection for it despite all the warts.
I guess the appeal for me would be that it’s like a southern Chicago was 10-15 years ago: a big city that’s still affordable. If you want to live in a big city that won’t price you out like LA, Miami, or New York might, Atlanta is not a bad option.
I suppose it’s affordable compared to those cities, but my rent has more than doubled in the past ten years…
That’s happened just about everywhere, unfortunately.
Yeah. Everything is up these days. I don’t think 100% over 10 years is exactly normal though, but I haven’t bothered to check, I suppose.
Certainly at least that in Denver, but it does depend on the market.
Denver does seem like a pretty popular place.
