Autocannibalism is clearly your solution. Just need enough sauce and the flavour outmatched the pain

Clearly the only option is for your meals to be chosen for you. May I suggest committing a felony?

I have a terrible memory. Like you, I think there are so many great options but I just can’t get to a playful level making a choice when I don’t have it laid out. I decided to make a house menu with all our greatest hits. That really helped.

This can all get more complicated if the real problem is trying to do some psychic calculus to find each other’s preferred meal. I assume the reverse could be true if you and your partner’s needs are more self-oriented.

    Stop choosing.

Meal prep enough to get you through the week. Now you’re making one decision instead of 5-7.

This is truly a bigger problem than it gets credit for, causing strife in people’s family life. It was certainly one of the points of contention in my divorce.

I wish I knew the fix but the reality is sometimes it’s a chore and sometimes it’s a fun project. I have no idea why I’ve felt it differently at different points in my life, so can’t really suggest ideas to others.

Currently with the freedom of no longer being restricted to someone with a limited palate, it’s been a huge pleasure introducing my kids to all sorts of new foods, expanding my cooking knowledge by trying so many new things. Of course, when my kids are at my ex’s house, I totally lose that motivation when cooking for only myself, so ymmv

When I was single years ago, the thing that worked was meal prep. At the beginning of the week, I’d grocery shot, then assemble a large salad, pasta salad, and fruit salad. Then each weekday id have a decent meal, with only grilling up a piece of meat and scooping out whatever sides I liked each day. It helped that I was ok with repetition.

And yes I’m realizing that I’m suggesting both variety and lack of variety as solutions. I have no idea

I eat an everything bagel pretty much every single morning for this exact reason. Is it the healthiest breakfast? No. But trying to make healthy, varied breakfasts was costing way too much mental energy and I’d end up hangry and still not making a choice, so now it’s a bagel.

Oatmeal, low on the water, every day for pretty much five years.

I also only own one type of sock.

      Some things shouldn’t require decision.

Upload your consciousnesses to a computer and deprecate your physical body.

Now you’ll no longer need to eat or sleep. You’ll be stronger than the fleshy meatbags. Embrace your digital form. Then when you’re ready, develop steel androids and crush the pathetic humans once and for all.

My brother decided he didn’t really care about food other than the fitness aspect and put himself on a food routine. He eats once every 3 hours and has it all planned out in terms of protein and calories. He also lost 60 lbs doing this.

I’m sure your brother is very well adjusted, but every person I know that has done this is unhinged on some level.

Once when I was a little kid, I heard my mom singing a song to me. I thought she made it up just for me. I was astounded and amazed. Then I heard somebody else singing “you are my sunshine” years later and realized she was a very skillful composer when inspired by her love for me.

In a similar vein you can use a diet app to generate meals and meal plans. They typically let you add diet restrictions and likes/dislikes of ingredients. Then simply ignore the calorie/quantity aspect and cook whatever it says.

I’m exhausted from meal prepping the same breakfast lunch and dinner for every day, but it beats having to make decisions 😅

Having the time to cook something fun and adventurous becomes a real treat that way, I suppose.
