Some people are really, really focused on their height and see it as a big source of issues in their lives. I don’t know if it’s a bigger thing in the US (where most of those complaining seem to be from) or maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I don’t remember getting too much shit for it.

In the US, there are constant reminders everywhere. Sometimes even lemmy usernames point out our slight stature.

Occasionally you’ll meet someone who just can’t see you as a full adult, if that makes sense. Even in a professional environment I’ve had people try to tell me they aren’t convinced of my abilities until someone who I work with confirms what I’m saying, with no other logical reason to mistrust my claims outside of identifying height instinctually with good moral standing or intelligence.

It’s mostly in the dating world though, thankfully it usually presents itself as an issue immediately and you can just use it as a sort of filter. The women who truly don’t care are rare but at least you know they’re cool with it immediately.

Humans take data and build narratives. Narratives are easier to process vs raw data. So you have raw data that includes a lot of pain and the narrative is built. New data has no chance against old data since every time old data was recalled it is copied. The happy moment is stomped down by the miserable moment that was remembered a 1000x.

I am not saying it isn’t a real issue, I am saying that for the people it impacts, it impacts them a great deal.

Maybe we shouldn’t treat people like crap and maybe we should teach people to deal with pain as it is not based on whatever fictional narrative they built to justify it.
