I think a major reason is because they’re the one getting the business end of US domestic policy while enjoying the least amount of perks from those policies (see how Hawai’i backrolled a lot in standard of living after the US colonization), because the US doesn’t seem to see Hawai’i as on the same level as the continental states, more like a vassal.
There is also a strong, surviving native culture clinging to life on the island. Many still know the crimes of the US and decry it for its terrors.
Which the US tried (and is still trying) to stamp out, naturally.
And of course they’re the one accusing other countries of “cultural genocide”.
Hawaii absolutely got it the worst when it comes to cultural commodification, which is really saying something because the Indigenous Americans has some of the worst examples of that I’ve ever seen.
For anyone living in the United States, have you ever been to any of those tourist-centric towns which are built over really important parts of native American history? If you know you know, and you’ll know it’s nauseating to look at. That’s basically what happened to Hawaii at the national scale. Nothing is sacred to Anglos.
So awesome to see my man Silverspook here. Literally the best streamer. The way they’re able to talk for 4 hours straight about US imperialism unscripted without missing a beat is simply mind blowing. Whenever I feel like shit I tune into their twitch or youtube to catch up on their content, and they always lift my revolutionary spirit. Every comrade should sub to them.
Oh, and their game, Neofeud, is a kickass cyberpunk anti-capitalist point-and-click adventure that’s often on sale.

After reading the whole or nearly the whole thread I just found something I didn’t agree with: that their game is not FLOSS or doesn’t seem to be that.
As for the rest, it is a really sad situation.
Yeah, unfortunately it’s not. However, knowing his situation, it’s one of the rare times I give a pass to and support trying to make money from it the conventional way (which while you still can with FLOSS, we have to acknowledge it’s much harder, especially for a one-person dev team).
