The news on CNN and reported the same way on every other self-respecting news agency:

US President Joe Biden said Israel’s military operation to go after Hamas had been “over the top,” as he highlighted the plight of Palestinians who have endured heavy bombardment and a lack of essential supplies.

Times of Israel:

Biden calls Gaza response ‘over the top’; unclear if remarks aimed at Israel or Hamas

US president was apparently responding to question about hostage negotiations; also said ‘a lot of innocent people are dying, and it’s gotta stop’; White House does not clarify

I think a lot of these need to be updated after israel’s genocide. Times of Israel might have been credible and unbiased in their other reporting which I presume this data is based on., but now a clear nationalism/zionism is showing.

It’s a similar issue with Al Jazeera, they’re otherwise a renown publication known for their rigorous reporting standards, until the subject is about Qatar, and especially the Qatari royal family

I lost a lot of respect for them when they tried to pin the hospital bombing on Israel and not Hamas despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I’m firmly opposed to what Israel is doing but that shit doesn’t help.

What evidence? I’m pretty sure the evidence Israel gave was debunked, wasn’t it?

Debunked by whom? I saw both accounts and then saw reputable outlets make corrections and the reports were corroborated by western intelligence. The Al Jazeera debunk video was incredibly amateur in my view.

It might be that Al Jazeera one you were talking about. Not sure, I’d have to go looking for it, you might be right. I don’t super trust western intelligence, though, considering that they’re on Israel’s side.

Nope, they’ve always been extremely anti-Palestinian. People just didn’t notice because that was the default stance of almost all people with power and influence.

now a clear nationalism/zionism is showing.

need to be updated after israel’s genocide.

Are you implying that these haven’t been updated since 1948?

Tbf, MBFC itself is mostly the hobby of one right wing dude with a huge pro-Israel government bias.

Sure, some of the ratings are done by volunteers or paid freelancers (with no real transparency about who did what, of course), but it’s mostly just some guy named Dave pretending to be an authority on bias and credibility.

MBFC is worth checking as a tool but nowhere remotely comprehensive. In their pursuit of neutrality, they often play Both Sides game and often only give a very shallow or dated investigation into outlets.

Newsguard was a decent one but they monetized it which made it useless.

Never heard of newsguard before, will check them out!

I’m looking for a reasonable source which could be made into a bot that crawls lemmy and adds the fact check and bias details to posts. That is what made me start reading into MBFC and I’m amazed at how crap they are… no experts on board, nothing really being used for “science”, mostly just based on the opinion of the founder… My partner tried to submit this ToI article for review on that site and basically there really isn’t a special form to fill for that and he had to email them instead. Let’s see if we hear back…
