Are you aware of eavesdrop.fm?
I have no experience with it myself, but from this overview I see there is this service called eavesdrop.fm
No, all data in ListenBrainz is available for everyone.
I used to like last.fm. But i felt like it was only becoming worse over the years. For instance, I used to like groups and was quite active in some. Then suddenly they were removed. With ListenBrainz I feel like there is much to improve still, and perhaps it’s not on the level of Last.fm on some aspects. But ListenBrainz is getting better by the year and will only improve as more people join the project.
Switched to Mull first but it’s rather buggy on my device. Been using Fennec now and I really like it! Thanks for the recommendations
I couldn’t really tell you. The ListenBrainz android app was first released in February. I imagine it has improved over the year. I can’t tell you because I don’t use the app. I personally have my Tauon Music Box audioplayer on PC linked up with Listenbrainz, and I don’t listen to music on android. But on the forums I don’t hear a lot of complaints so I would assume it’s reasonably good.
It allows for data analysis. This helps you to discover new music, keep track of new releases coming out. It also allows you to easily share your musical interests with others. And it doesn’t have blind spots. Spotify would never recommend you something that’s not on Spotify. Because people submit listens to ListenBrainz from Spotify but also from other platforms and from local files there are no inherent blind spots. My listening behavior is no secret, anyone can have a look at it, I choose for it to not be private. But I wouldn’t want to just gift it to any one particular company that can use it to make money. By submitting listens to ListenBrainz you basically gift it to everyone.
Don’t let yourself be fooled. Lemmy is doing great. It’s got a lot more user than half a year ago and it will continue to grow. You should look at the bigger perspective here. People are starting to understand the point of the Fediverse more and more and it will eventually take over enshitified platforms such as Reddit
Can you explain to me what happened a couple months ago why people can’t post pictures? And what should one do to enable it?
It does? thanks for letting me know, was not aware of this. I’ve been using DuckDuckGo privacy browser because I like to rely on the F-droid app store and sadly Firefox is not available there.
So I can run uBlock origin on Firefox for Android? That’d be great. On desktop I am running LibreWolf. I hope one day I can run such Firefox versions on Android.
People make it look like it’s over for Lemmy, but this is only the beginning. Don’t worry, Reddit will fuck things up again. The Fediverse will win in the long run. Maybe Lemmy doesn’t have the momentum yet that we want it to have. At the same it’s grown so much. I mean, not that long ago there were almost only communists on this thing…

The prophet Mohammed has been drawn many times. It’s a shame that very often the head of Muhammed has been scratched off of the paintings. People still honored the artwork but thought depicting the prophet was a mistake. Persian miniature art is a beautiful world to dive into if art has your interest. Kamāl ud-Dīn Behzād would be a nice starting point.
Here people use WhatsApp, not Facebook messenger, but the idea is the same. I left WhatsApp last year. My dearest friends and family have installed Signal after I did. They haven’t left WhatsApp but they use it to contact me. We have group chats on Signal. If colleagues need to reach me I tell them they can sent me an SMS or join Signal. They mostly just send SMS. I used to be in a group chats from my 2 jobs. Luckily I don’t necessarily need to be in either of them, it’s mostly used for trading shifts and there are other ways to do that. Important communication goes through email.
When one method of communication is the norm it is obviously very difficult to move away from it, and for some people it will feel almost impossible. We shouldn’t deny that there is a choice, because there is, but obviously for some it will be a lot easier than for others. I was in the lucky position that it felt possible, and it worked out great. I am very relieved that I am part of fewer group chats now. They’re quite a burden actually. I hope in the future when things shift a little further from the current norm, it will be possible for you as well.
I completely agree with you, but this is always the problem isn’t it? It’s a cat and mouse game. If the mouse learns techniques to hide from the cat the cat develops better techniques to find the mouse. It’s not a reason for the mouse to stop hiding.
more targeted ads means more spying. That’s bad news in theory and in practice.
Not sure what you mean. I don’t think there is a like function in MusicBrainz, is there? You can ‘love’ or ‘hate’ tracks in ListenBrainz
