  • Right, the trick will be quantifying what is ‘likely to be a hit’, which if we’re honest, has already been done.

Also, neural networks and other evolutionary algorithms can inject random perturbations/mutations to the system which, operate a bit like uninformed creativity (something like banging on a piano and hearing something interesting that’s worth pursuing). So, while not ‘inspired’ or ‘soulful’ as we would generally think of it, these algorithms are capable of being creative In some sense. But it would need to be recognized as ‘good’ by someone or something…and back to your point.

  • Man, I hadn’t seen this. I’ll have to dig a little deeper, but from a quick scan doesn’t look awesome.

I’ve been a big fan for many many years. Doesn’t change what he did for food television. And helped do (along with other people/companies of the same era) to food science. But, damn, can’t a hero just stay a hero?

At least I still have Jacques.

  • +1 for paprika. Works like a charm. Other great features too. I have all my recipes with all of my personal tweaks/notes from the past 10 years in there. Also, all of my ‘special occasion’ meal planning goes through there.

I’m probably old-school, but you may also find you get some good use out of cookbooks if you find good/reliable ones. They’re also kind of fun to browse/explore once you have faith in the source.

A few I’d recommend: The Food Lab America’s Test Kitchen Good Eats

If there’s a cuisine you favor you, you might try finding a commonly recommended book or author in that area.

  • Hello from Kansas (burbs of Kansas City).

Like many, I came from reddit. Spent about 10 years there; about 5 just lurking, then about 5 years a little more engaged.

My hobby is hobbies. I think I just like learning and tinkering. My list of endeavors includes photography, diy audio, camping, cooking/smoking, woodworking, beer brewing, gardening, music (making and consuming), home diy, etc, etc.

Some lasted, some did not, others come and go.

So many times Ive had a nuanced question posed to a community of enthusiasts yield 1000% better results than several hours of searching and reading. I’m looking forward to exploring and interacting here.
