I’d recommend considering adopting, if you don’t mind me saying so. More paperwork sure, but way less pain for you or your partner, and they’re really usually perfectly good kids. My neice, nephew, and cousin are all adopted, and they’re no less a part of the family than anyone else.
It makes a world of difference to a child that already exists, and you spare the unborn the existential crises our world is facing- huge win-win.
It’s been weeks since I watched it, but one obvious criticism that stuck with me was that their hopium scenario was very anglo-centric. Yeah, western nations will probably survive and maybe even with relatively fewer I’ll effects, but millions are going to die in the global south, and billions will have their quality of life massively reduced from what is already a low standard. So many animals and plants are going to suffer and go extinct too.
I agree that we should still see climate change as something we can effect, we’re not helpless to it, but the optimism they reach so hard for is really only applicable to their primary audience.
