I think if he continues to look like this in the playoffs people will accept him for what he is. In the divisional Cowboys game he really was getting carried by the rest of the team and simply avoided losing the game for us, but he’s grown a lot since then and people’s understanding of who he is will change accordingly so long as he keeps playing really well.

He was able to take on one of the 49ers linebackers and make him entirely worthless for the rest of the game, I definitely couldn’t pull that off. He’s a true pro.

The Perfect Quarterback can get the ball in the perfect place for someone to catch but they still need that person to catch it, and the worse the receivers are the less separation they’re gonna have and the harder those catches are gonna be.

In reality the perfect quarterback goes 20/20 for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns each game and rushes for an extra 100 yards and 2 more touchdowns. A Lamar Jackson+ who never gets hurt? That’s fucking nice. Still though, not getting paid more than what I said above just because the game falls apart if your supporting cast can’t do the basics.

If they get rid of AP they’re making a huge mistake, that team can handle losses when their coach actually gives a shit about the players and is seemingly doing a pretty good job running the ship. I’d at least give it a full season.

Gotta say the 2021 HC class feels a lot like the 21 QB draft class, albeit there’s two guys here who are gonna be around the league for a long time to come whereas there’s only one guy like that among the QBs. Lotta sure shots that turned out to not be sure shots whatsoever.

I think that’s been the consistent direction that the league’s going in and, frankly, I think it’s a bad thing. In the pursuit of success teams are dumping players really early and I think it’s why we see a lot of late-career breakout stars because these players are capable of playing at this level, they just don’t get the right environment (both time to learn and good coaches to learn from) to succeed.

This is a controversial one but I think there’s a solid chance that with all the people we need to extend next year, Deebo ends up somewhere else. For a lot of people I think that’s borderline sacrilegious but if Purdy continues to develop as a passer I think Kyle’s likely going to be moving away from the wideback concept that’s defined the past 4 years of Niners football.

It’s a copycat league, if you prove that a particular route combo works then everyone else is going to use it too. The thing that separates a decent coordinator from a great one is two things, being detail-oriented and being strategic.

Details matter when it comes to play design, making sure your receivers are running very specific routes in order to manipulate the defenders is the difference between a massive play and an incompletion. One of the things that JT O’Sullivan talked about a lot is that other teams are trying to use the new Dolphins motion where Tyreek sprints out right before the play starts, but these other teams don’t do it as well because they don’t have a player who’s able to turn into their route while losing minimal speed like Tyreek can which ultimately makes the motion as effective as it is for the Fins. Great coordinators get the most out of their players through details like that.

Then on the strategy side of it, at some point you’ve seen a perfectly-timed screen pass where the defense is overcommitting and a play that should’ve gone for 3 yards goes for 30 instead. Knowing how the other team is feeling and taking advantage of that is huge.
