Honestly I’m not sure, but it wouldn’t be the first time a new party has emerged in this country so surely there is a way. I think one of the keys will be to no longer rely on traditional media, they’re clearly vested in maintaining the status quo.

Consider the success of Arab Spring a few years ago. This is why musk Twitter takeover and the bipartisan threat to TikTok is so dangerous, because it further atomizes people and prevents us from organizing on those platforms.

R voters also happen to want good healthcare - shocking I know. My point is that the politicians are in bipartisan agreement that profits and lining their own pockets with bribe money is more important than American lives.

My broader point is that Dems lost so many voters because they didn’t indicate any willingness to change from Biden’s policies on this matter. And, obviously, it’s so bad that the people have reached an extreme breaking point. Sadly this allowed Trump to position himself as the change candidate and win, even though in actuality it will be change for the worse through further privatization and rolling back the possibility of those with preexisting conditions to get coverage at all. It’s barbaric, and the Dems were supposed to do so much better for the working class in this area.

The right choice for healthcare is a new party that is actually left of center.

Show me where Kamala or the DNC were promoting Medicare for all (or any improvements to healthcare for that matter) in this election cycle? And don’t say negotiating prices on 10 more prescription drugs or I’ll know you’re completely unserious.

Just to be clear, the primary negotiator for ACA was Biden, not Obama. What did he do? Biden immediately gave away the public option as a show of good faith so they could pass something with bipartisan compromise (which always means corpos are screwing the people.) The result was pretty much what we have today, 30mil extra Americans funneled into the pockets of private insurance companies for worse care at greater expense.

It sounds like you’re saying scrapping this and letting private insurers go back to not covering people with pre-existing conditions is Trump’s plan. Hope you’re wrong, that would be exceedingly cruel.

There shouldn’t be a profit motive in denying people healthcare - in fact healthcare should be a basic human right we guarantee to everyone in the richest country in the world, which means private insurers have no business in this business.

Yeah, but he says things at his rallies that make him appear pro-labor. Never mind his history, never mind his intent - Trump attempts to have the right optics, and in politics that matters way more than objective facts on policy (unfortunately). This works way better than what the Dems did fucking around with the likes of Mark Cuban and Liz Cheney while pretending Bidenomics helps anyone but mega corps.

Well said. I think they get that things have gone too far, but just don’t care / don’t know how to make it better at this point. And Dems definitely aren’t interested in listening to good ideas from the left, so…here we are.

Not really, it’s more like Dems give 5-10% of what they promise, and everything else is robbing from the working class to further cement the established power structure. That 5-10% is normally supposed to keep a lid on open revolt, but at a time when housing prices have doubled and food costs have tripled, that’s just not enough anymore.

That’s an insightful point, and honestly taxing those loans as realized gains sounds entirely reasonable. It’s good for the lenders because of reduced risk, it’s good for the rich because it keeps them honest, and it’s good for the public because we gain increased tax revenue from those who can most afford it. Nice!

Well yeah, that’s exactly what’s happened for at least the past 50 years. In 1968 corporations were paying 53% of their profits in taxes, and billionaires were paying 94% around that time! Btw, if you’re making billions, paying 94% still leaves you richer than most…

Contrast that to today, where the system is so obviously broken during a time when Amazon is paying less in total taxes than a fry cook at McDonald’s.

It would need to be done with actually no loopholes, and meaningful enforcement of consequences for those who would try to cheat (perhaps the guillotine).

Dems could have ran a candidate that appealed to voters, but instead opted for the same corporate shills as always. Dems could have campaigned on massively popular populist policies like paid family leave, raising the minimum wage, or Medicare for all - things which would directly improve the material living conditions of the working class. Their donors didn’t allow them to, and their corruption ensured their obedience. Once again, not learning the lesson, and once again, losing in historic fashion.

The donors got what they wanted, so mission accomplished.
