Not anymore. Now it’s a self-perpetuating capitalist oligarchy, with a fair helping of totalitarianism. Any hint of communism has been stamped out, although they can fairly claim some (very selective) socialism.
It’s a shame, too. It’s quite shocking, if you spend some time there, to see how un-communist the country really is. Maybe things are a bit better in the countryside, but the cities (even smaller ones) are far less for the average person than an equivalent city in, say, the Nordics. I’ve only been to Sweden once but it seemed to me far closer to what that idealized society might look like.
While I’m inclined to agree, aren’t a bunch of the Nordic countries also propped up by a ton of oil money? Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, for example, is worth over a trillion US dollars.
Kinda makes it easier to have a good quality of life when you’re filthy stinking rich.
Ofc, you can compare that to other countries with vast oil wealth, like the UAE, and there are some pretty stark differences, so tons of money certainly isn’t the only cause.
Norway is the only one where that applies, and I specifically mentioned Sweden.
Edit: with that said, Norway’s example only proves my point — they nationalized a natural resource and have been using the funds for the public good. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund is 50% bigger than China’s despite Norway having 1/280th (!!!) of China’s population.
Well Karl Marx theorized that communism would arise after a long period of social evolution. Therefore they are just socially evolving and not capitalist and somehow not hypocrites.
Don’t forget, the development of a capitalist mode of production is only communist if you suppress all semblance of democracy first. Otherwise, it’s “Social fascism”
Do they claim marxism? Because communism can take other forms like State and Leninist. Nobody does marxist communism, there’a always some cult of personality, dictatorship, or tyrant at the helm and the people get lip service and the worst aspects of social policy designed to extract wealth and power. Instead of multiple corporation trying to control you and having to play nice to keep you vs the other guys, the State becomes the rotten corporation beholden to nobody and only has to offer enough service to keep everyone from revolting while holding them essentially hostage.

norway is the only oil-producing nordic country. sweden exports mainly steel, wood, and high-tech products like HV transformers and Minecraft.
That minecraft money propping up a country

Agreed!
How can they claim Marxism when they have an investor class and stock markets?

“Oh no, not Marxism. We are Keynesian communists.”
But ml assures me CCP is communist.
There was a meme on there the other day with a Mao quote about how brainwashing is good, actually.
It’s impossible to parody.
Damn where’s that one? Sounds like a candidate for !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works
It was on /communism
