Do you ever wonder if the person you think you are is how others perceive you? For example: I was very shy when I was younger. I felt what I had to say wasn’t important so I didn’t talk. I learned that instead of seeming shy, people thought I was stuck up and “too good” to talk to them. It’s not about caring what other people think. It’s about how we form connections, display emotions, etc., as a result of the person we show to others.
I believe it’s called “person perception” in sociology. I agree, different people can have different perceptions. I find it interesting.
But like, looking something differently and having different opinions on it. I’ve seen it time and time again and have never seen anyone else bring it up.
It is interesting because how much of our perception is our own interpretation of reality and how much of it is clouded by the propaganda fed to us?
Reality has become subjective in this day and age at least in the west and I find that filters down to the perceptions of individuals.
So would that be considered personal perception still or would there be a new term to describe it?
As someone who never studied sociology academically I couldn’t say with any certainty to be clear.
